VP, Regional CMO, Primary Care

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP, Regional CMO, Primary Care based in the United States.

This is a senior physician leadership opportunity focused on advancing comprehensive, value-based primary care for senior populations at regional scale.
The role combines clinical leadership, strategic planning, operational partnership, and measurable improvement in patient outcomes.
You will lead regional and area medical directors while partnering closely with a Regional Market President in a clinical-business leadership dyad.
The position offers significant influence over care quality, clinician performance, population health, patient experience, and market growth.
You will also contribute to national clinical priorities, innovation, care model development, analytics, and technology enablement.
With approximately 40% or less travel and around 10% clinical practice in your home market, the role balances enterprise leadership with direct clinical connection.
This is an opportunity to shape high-performing primary care teams and help transform how value-based healthcare is delivered across multiple markets.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead clinical excellence across a region by building a patient-centered culture focused on team-based care, value-based outcomes, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive measurable improvements in patient outcomes, care experience and engagement, quality performance, disease management, utilization, and population health across multiple geographies.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen coordination with specialists, hospitals, community organizations, and other high-quality care partners to better meet patient needs.
  • Maintain approximately 10% clinical practice within the home market to remain connected to patient needs, clinical teams, and the realities of frontline care delivery.
  • Lead, coach, and develop regional clinical leaders, strengthening capabilities in value-based care, team leadership, clinical excellence, and performance management.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of high-quality primary care clinicians while helping maintain appropriate staffing levels across markets.
  • Partner closely with the Regional Market President as a clinical leadership dyad, aligning patient-first decision-making with operational performance, growth, clinical quality, and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with regional leaders and shared-service teams to improve operations, patient care, outcomes, market expansion, acquisitions, patient growth, and clinical integration.
  • Lead assigned national clinical priorities in areas such as care model development, clinical operations, quality, clinical excellence, technology enablement, and analytics.
  • Represent the organization's clinical perspective through research, publications, speaking engagements, talent development initiatives, and relationships with leading training programs and institutions.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage broader enterprise capabilities and programs to improve care delivery, patient outcomes, clinician effectiveness, and organizational performance.
Requirements
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited university and medical program.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a practicing physician, combined with at least 5 years of strategic clinical leadership experience at a regional or national level.
  • Active Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine, maintained throughout employment.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license in applicable states, with willingness and ability to obtain additional state licenses as required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple clinical teams across geographies and programs, preferably within medical group, ambulatory care, or similar primary care environments.
  • Strong expertise in value-based care, particularly Medicare Advantage, including familiarity with HEDIS/STARS, medical risk adjustment, clinical programming, quality management, utilization management, network management, and payment models such as capitation, partial risk, or direct contracting.
  • Proven track record of implementing clinician-led strategies that improve patient outcomes, clinical quality, operational performance, and population health.
  • Deep understanding of team-based primary care models and a demonstrated ability to attract, develop, coach, and retain high-quality clinical leaders and physicians.
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and demonstrated success leading change initiatives with measurable impact.
  • Experience with multi-site clinic start-ups, market development, or expansion is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to serving high-risk senior populations and understanding the clinical and community needs of the patients served.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex, geographically distributed environment while building strong partnerships with executives, clinicians, and cross-functional leaders.
  • Willingness to travel periodically, up to approximately 40% or less, to support regional and national teams.
Benefits
  • Fully remote position with the expectation of occasional travel to company offices for meetings or training.
  • Approximately 40 hours per week, with a leadership role spanning multiple regional markets.
  • Opportunity to combine executive clinical leadership with approximately 10% direct clinical practice.
  • Significant influence over value-based primary care strategy, clinical quality, population health, and patient outcomes.
  • Opportunity to lead and develop regional medical leadership teams and contribute to national clinical initiatives.
  • Exposure to large-scale healthcare transformation, care model innovation, analytics, and technology-enabled care.
  • Work-from-home flexibility, with a dedicated workspace required to protect confidential patient information.
  • Home internet requirements include minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload.
  • Equal opportunity workplace committed to fair employment practices and an inclusive environment.
  • Application deadline: September 20, 2026.
