Job Description

5 Points Electrical is seeking an experienced Electrical QA/QC Specialist to support the successful execution of commercial, industrial, institutional, and mission-critical electrical construction projects.

The Electrical QA/QC Specialist will be responsible for implementing and maintaining project-specific quality control procedures, inspecting electrical installations, identifying deficiencies before they become costly rework, verifying compliance with contract documents, specifications, approved submittals, applicable codes, and 5 Points Electrical standards.

This position will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, field personnel, General Contractors, inspectors, engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure that electrical work is installed correctly, documented properly, and completed in accordance with project requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong field experience combined with excellent documentation, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance / Quality Control

  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific electrical QA/QC procedures and inspection processes.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, approved submittals, RFIs, change orders, and contract requirements to identify quality requirements.
  • Perform routine and scheduled field inspections of electrical installations.
  • Verify installations are consistent with approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and project standards.
  • Identify defective, incomplete, or non-conforming work and communicate corrective actions to the appropriate project personnel.
  • Track deficiencies through resolution and verify corrective work has been completed.
  • Assist in establishing project inspection and testing requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), checklists, and quality control documentation.
  • Conduct pre-installation and preparatory meetings when required.
  • Participate in project quality meetings and coordination meetings.
  • Assist project teams in identifying potential quality issues before work is installed.

Electrical Field Inspections

  • Inspect electrical systems and installations including, but not limited to:
    • Switchgear and switchboards
    • Distribution equipment
    • Transformers
    • Panelboards
    • Feeders and branch circuits
    • Conduit systems
    • Cable tray
    • Grounding and bonding
    • Lighting systems
    • Emergency power systems
    • Generators and ATS systems
    • Fire alarm systems
    • Low-voltage and structured cabling systems
    • Equipment connections
    • Electrical rooms and equipment spaces
  • Verify proper installation, labeling, identification, routing, support, termination, torque, grounding, and workmanship.
  • Perform inspections at appropriate stages of construction to prevent concealed deficiencies.
  • Coordinate and witness testing as required by the project specifications.
  • Verify equipment installation and startup documentation where applicable.

Documentation & Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate QA/QC inspection records.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and project-specific quality reports.
  • Maintain deficiency/punch lists and corrective-action logs.
  • Document inspections with photographs and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain inspection checklists and testing records.
  • Assist with maintaining project turnover and closeout documentation.
  • Review as-built documentation and verify field conditions are properly documented.
  • Support preparation of final QA/QC turnover packages.
  • Maintain organized records for owner, engineer, GC, and internal review.

Code & Standards Compliance

  • Verify electrical installations comply with applicable requirements, including:
    • National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)
    • NFPA standards applicable to the project
    • OSHA requirements
    • Local AHJ requirements
    • Project specifications
    • Manufacturer installation requirements
    • Approved construction documents
  • Identify potential code or specification conflicts and communicate them to project management.
  • Assist with preparation for AHJ, engineer, owner, and third-party inspections.

Project Coordination

  • Work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to establish quality expectations from project startup through turnover.
  • Coordinate with Foremen and field personnel regarding quality requirements and corrective actions.
  • Attend project coordination and quality meetings.
  • Communicate quality concerns professionally and proactively.
  • Assist with resolving field issues and determining appropriate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with other trades when electrical work interfaces with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, or technology systems.
  • Support project management during owner/GC inspections and punch-list activities.

Commissioning & Testing Support

  • Support electrical testing and commissioning activities.
  • Verify completion of required pre-functional checklists.
  • Assist with equipment startup and commissioning documentation.
  • Coordinate with testing agencies when required.
  • Verify that deficiencies identified during testing and commissioning are properly documented and corrected.
  • Assist with final system turnover and owner acceptance.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify recurring quality issues and recommend improvements to installation practices.
  • Assist in developing company-wide QA/QC standards and procedures.
  • Provide feedback to field leadership regarding workmanship trends and training opportunities.
  • Participate in lessons-learned meetings.
  • Help establish best practices that reduce rework, warranty issues, schedule delays, and project costs.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and quality throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical construction, electrical inspection, QA/QC, commissioning, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, one-lines, schedules, details, and equipment submittals.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code and electrical construction practices.
  • Experience performing field inspections and identifying installation deficiencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to document findings clearly and professionally.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with project teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PDF/document management software.
  • Ability to travel between project locations as required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large commercial, industrial, healthcare, data center, government, or mission-critical projects.
  • Experience with electrical QA/QC programs for projects exceeding $10M.
  • Experience with commissioning and electrical testing.
  • Familiarity with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, or similar construction management platforms.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • NICET certification or equivalent industry certification.
  • Experience with NFPA standards and AHJ inspections.
  • Experience with low-voltage systems, fire alarm, structured cabling, security, or other Division 27/28 systems.
  • Previous experience working directly with General Contractors, engineers, owners, and third-party inspectors.
  • Fluent in Spanish or Korean (preferred but not required)

  • Maintain a professional relationship with GCs, owners, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Promote consistent workmanship standards across 5 Points Electrical projects.
  • Become a company resource for electrical quality, documentation, and field best practices.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Primarily field-based with periodic office responsibilities.
  • Ability to walk active construction sites and inspect electrical installations.
  • Ability to climb ladders/stairs and access electrical rooms, equipment areas, and construction areas.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and comply with project-specific safety requirements.
  • Position may require travel to multiple project locations and occasional overnight travel.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate is a field-experienced electrical professional who understands both construction and quality control. This person should be comfortable walking a jobsite, traveling, identifying a problem, understanding why it is a problem, communicating the corrective action, documenting it, and following it through to completion.

This is not simply a paperwork position. The Electrical QA/QC Specialist will be expected to be actively involved in the field and serve as a bridge between field operations, project management, engineering, and the customer.
