Legal Counsel

Accountabilities

You will be responsible for supporting legal operations across commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters while providing practical legal guidance to internal stakeholders.

  • Support senior legal leadership with a variety of commercial, corporate, and operational legal matters
  • Structure and assist in implementing international commercial and corporate transactions
  • Draft, review, and negotiate customer, supplier, financing, and other commercial agreements
  • Provide legal support on labour, employment, and immigration-related matters when required
  • Assess legal and operational risks and contribute to the development of mitigation strategies
  • Analyze laws, regulations, and compliance requirements and provide guidance to business teams
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support business initiatives and operational decision-making
  • Contribute to contract management, legal documentation, and corporate governance activities
  • Support legal research and provide practical recommendations on complex legal issues
  • Ensure legal activities are handled with professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail
Requirements

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and business-minded legal professional with strong communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.

  • Law degree from a recognized university
  • Membership in good standing with a recognized Bar association
  • 1 to 5 years of experience in commercial law, corporate law, or related legal practice areas
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work both independently and within cross-functional teams
  • High level of professionalism, ethics, accountability, and sound business judgment
  • Experience in labour and employment law or commercial contracts is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of maritime law, chartering, or maritime operations is an advantage
  • Common law education or experience is considered a plus
  • Availability outside standard business hours when required
