School Nurse
Performance Profile
Position Summary
The School Nurse is a benefits-eligible, full-time position that serves the school year plus one additional month during summer (typically August through June). The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This role reports directly to the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning and is responsible for the effective operation of the Nurse’s Office and the overall health and welfare of the student body. The School Nurse also plays a key role in health education, staff training, and medical compliance administration.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee the general health and well-being of students; communicate with families as necessary regarding health-related matters.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student health files, including immunization records and medication documentation.
- Provide nursing care to students and staff in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
- Manage and maintain all student health records through Magnus Health.
- Manage and maintain The Fay School Nurse Handbook.
- Ensure immunization records are compliant with Texas state requirements; submit required documentation to the state by designated deadlines.
- Administer both short-term and long-term student medications with proper authorization; maintain medication logs and permissions.
- Maintain current CPR/AED certification and coordinate, manage, and track CPR training for faculty and staff.
- Conduct annual vision and hearing screenings and submit required reports to the state.
- Provide first aid training for staff; prepare first aid kits for classrooms and field trips.
- Manage the clinic budget and maintain an inventory of medical supplies.
- Document all student visits the clinic accurately and confidentially.
- Support outdoor and experiential learning activities (e.g., Forest Time) as requested by the Principal or Dean of Students.
- Follow established procedures according to The Fay School Handbook for accident reports and illness-related dismissals.
- Communicate significant injuries or health incidents to the Assistant Heads of School, and Head of School by the end of the same school day.
- Issue timely and appropriate communication to the school community regarding health-related concerns (e.g., flu outbreaks, communicable illnesses).
- Serve as a health and hygiene resource for faculty.
- Participate as a member of the Operations Team, attending all relevant meetings.
- Willingness to use personal smartphone to access school apps for communication and collaboration, as needed to fulfill role duties.
- Support and uphold the School’s mission, values, and leadership.

Qualifications
- Current RN licensure with the State of Texas.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/AED Instructor certification.
- Current Vision and Hearing Screening certification.
- Proficiency in Magnus Health, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather and terrain (e.g., grass, trails, pavement).
- Physical capacity to stand, walk, kneel, navigate stairs, and lift up to 20 lbs.; ability to give clear verbal instructions in loud environments.
