Job Description
CSPNJ a mental health nonprofit agency is looking for seasonal Cooling Center NJCDL Bus Driver(s). The main responsibility is to transport passengers in Hudson & Essex county to the Cooling Center in Kearny safely and on time.
The Cooling Center provides emergency daytime shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness during periods of extreme summer heat. The program offers a safe, cool, and welcoming environment where unsheltered community members can escape dangerous temperatures during the day. In addition to relief from the heat, guests have access to basic support services, hydration, rest areas, and connections to community resources as available. The Cooling Center is designed to help protect vulnerable individuals from heat-related illness while promoting safety, dignity, and well-being throughout the summer season.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Must have a NJ Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Communicate effectively with passengers.
- Maintains orderly conduct of passengers on bus.
- Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the bus.
- Report accidents, incidents, or mechanical problems to the center manager.
- Inspect the bus before and after each trip to ensure it is in good working condition and ensure cleanliness after each shift.
*Daytime shifts available from July - September
Requirements:- NJ Commercial Driver's License (CDL) REQUIRED.
- Clean driving record with no accidents or violations within the last 3 years.
- Excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of the surrounding community. (Hudson & Essex county)
- Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle to ensure operating condition.
- Experience with working with the homeless population preferred.
- Must have a High School diploma / GED.
- Efficiency and time-management.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in stressful situations.
- Proven ability to engage and support individuals with mental health diagnoses using empathy and professionalism.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Bilingual skills are a plus!
