Position Summary:
Zeeco is seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Fire Tube Boiler Thermal Design Engineer with 4–5 years of relevant experience in boiler thermal design and performance engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for thermal calculations, combustion analysis, heat transfer evaluation, efficiency optimization, and technical design development for fire tube boiler systems used in industrial and commercial applications.
The role requires strong analytical capabilities and hands-on experience in thermal design activities throughout the project lifecycle, from proposal development to project execution and commissioning support.
- Perform thermal design calculations for fire tube boilers, including heat and mass balance, furnace sizing, heat transfer analysis, and efficiency calculations.
- Design and optimize key boiler components such as furnaces, combustion chambers, smoke tubes, reversal chambers, tube arrangements, and economizers.
- Conduct combustion calculations for various fuels, including natural gas, LPG, diesel, furnace oil, and biomass fuels.
- Prepare thermal design reports, engineering calculations, datasheets, technical specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Evaluate boiler performance parameters, including evaporation rates, flue gas temperatures, excess air levels, pressure drops, and overall thermal efficiency.
- Provide technical support to proposal and sales teams by developing equipment sizing calculations, performance guarantees, and technical solutions.
- Collaborate with mechanical, process, manufacturing, and project engineering teams to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and compliance with project requirements.
- Perform thermal simulations and CFD studies, where applicable, to validate and optimize equipment performance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and customer specifications, including ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, IBR, and other relevant regulations.
- Investigate operational and performance-related issues in existing boiler installations and recommend effective engineering solutions.
- Support commissioning, start-up, performance testing, and troubleshooting activities related to thermal performance.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, value engineering initiatives, and continuous improvement programs
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 4–5 years of experience in thermal design and performance engineering of fire tube boilers.
- Strong understanding of:
- Heat Transfer Principles

- Thermodynamics
- Fluid Flow and Pressure Drop Calculations
- Boiler Efficiency Improvement Techniques
- Familiarity with industrial boiler standards, codes, and regulations.
- Experience in preparing technical proposals, performance calculations, and engineering documentation.

- AutoCAD
- SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software
- Thermal Design Software
- CFD Software (preferred)
- Knowledge of energy-efficiency enhancement systems such as economizers, air preheaters, and waste heat
- recovery systems utilizing PPSD and HTRI software tools.
- Ability to conduct root cause analysis and performance diagnostics for boiler systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Understanding manufacturing, fabrication, and operational considerations associated with boiler construction.
- Accuracy and reliability of thermal design calculations.
- Achievement of guaranteed boiler performance and efficiency targets.
- Timely completion of engineering deliverables.
- Compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
- Reduction in design revisions and performance deviations.
- Contribution toward cost optimization, operational reliability, and energy-efficiency improvements
