Job Description
Overview:
The Safety Manager is responsible interpreting and guiding operations towards compliance with all applicable safety rules and regulations while complying with all environmental standards and/or Mountain Cement Company policies. Basic qualifications and/or traits that the company Safety Manager must posses include:
1) A through knowledge of all safety rules and regulations (MSHA M/NM, OSHA, and State of Wyoming) and how they are interpreted and enforced by the regulatory agencies.
2) Leadership; must be capable of educating and motivating others to maintain compliance at all times.
3) Integrity and ethical behavior beyond reproach.
4) Must possess good communication skills; writing, speaking, and listening effectively.
5) A thorough knowledge of cement manufacturing.
6) Must be able to communicate safety compliance objectives clearly to other company management/supervisory personnel. This individual shall provide feedback/appraisals to ascertain whether the objectives are being met.
7) The ability to define the root causes for non-compliance and accidents to prevent their reoccurrence.
8) Must possess good decision making skills based upon the ability to identify problems, collect relevant information/data, and generate alternatives.
9) Must be capable of handling stress associated with job duties, deadlines, and personnel interactions.
10) Capable of maintaining appropriate and constructive responses under all circumstances.
Responsibilities:
The Safety Manager is accountable for directing the company safety program and accident prevention activities for all operations. This individual’s responsibilities include but are not inclusive of:
1) Compliance with all federal and State of Wyoming rules/regulations at all times. Procedures and performance of compliance activities may vary as conditions change (i.e. changing weather conditions, operational status of mechanical equipment changes, etc.)
2) Interpretation of all safety rules and regulations for company supervisors and management personnel.
3) Company liaison with MSHA and Wyoming State Mine Inspector regulatory authorities.
4) Completion of required paperwork, reports, and all other requests of safety regulatory agencies.
5) Capable of conducting accident investigations, interviews, and completion of Worker’s Compensation paperwork.
6) Problem solving including the ability to identify problems, development of corrective actions, and holding company supervisors accountable for safety/accident performance.
7) Clearly communicating compliance goals/objectives to all employees to provide definitive direction to all company employees, including enforcement and disciplinary action.
8) Be a mentor, coach, teacher in all the health and safety aspects.
9) Capable to provide first Aids/CPR, when is needed.
Basic Requirements:
The Safety Manager will preferably have formal and/or a technical education.
1) A B.S. degree in the Environmental Sciences, Safety Management is desirable; however, demonstrated oral and written communication skills along with Microsoft Office products and general computer proficiency is most important.
2) A familiarity with legal interpretations and operations is beneficial.
3) A fundamental understanding of all state and federal rules and regulations affecting all company operations, i.e. MSHA M/NM rules/regulations, State of Wyoming rules/regulations, Workers Compensation, etc.
4) Technical training in first response, First Aid/CPR, etc.
