Job Description:
Job Summary
Hillsdale College is seeking an exceptional candidate to assist in advancing the College’s mission across all social media platforms. The successful applicant will use creativity, passion, knowledge, and writing skills to help Hillsdale inform those familiar with the College and introduce its mission to new audiences. Responsibilities include drafting and posting materials across all College accounts and monitoring social media for opportunities to increase engagement and grow the College’s audience. Comfort in a fast-paced environment is a must. This is a highly collaborative team, and all members should be excited to develop and express new, creative ideas. This is a 1-year position.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the creation and scheduling of high-quality, engaging content across all College platforms.
  • Identify opportunities for the College to cultivate goodwill, reinforce its mission, and increase its audience size by sending mission-appropriate responses to posts, i.e., “community engagement.”
  • Assist in the writing of The Hillsdale Current, a weekly email newsletter of campus highlights.
  • Stay informed on current social media trends, internet culture, and platform-specific best practices, and make use of these findings to develop new content ideas.
  • Cheerfully perform other tasks, as needed.

Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor of Arts degree is required.
  • Experience with marketing or a related field is preferred.
  • Candidates should possess excellent writing skills, and should possess or be able to gain current knowledge of the leading social media platforms.


Other Skills:
Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic familiarity with major social media networks (e.g., X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube)
  • Ability and willingness to learn to use the social media management suite Sprout Social
  • General computer and smartphone proficiency
  • The willingness to develop familiarity with Hillsdale College initiatives, education, news media, entertainment, advertising, and other fields pertinent to developing creative ideas and insights for social media

Personal Characteristics
  • Members of the Marketing Department produce external-facing materials and interact with teams across campus. To ensure a professional and pleasant relationship, a clean, neat appearance that supports the College’s mission is essential. This relationship needs to be supportive and professional, while maintaining confidentiality as needed.
