About the Position
Job Summary/Profile:
The Janitorial & Facilities Support position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment at the main office. This role performs routine and deep-cleaning custodial duties, supports facility readiness for staff and visitors, and ensures that common areas consistently meet health and safety standards. This position does not include Direct Support Professional (DSP) responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In a manner consistent with supporting the Life Works mission statement and values, the Janitorial & Facilities Support position will be responsible for the following:
Custodial & Cleaning Duties
- Perform daily cleaning of restrooms, breakrooms, offices, hallways, andcommon areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and deep-clean floor surfaces.
- Dust surfaces, vents, baseboards, and office furnishings.
- Empty trash, recycling, and compost receptacles; replace liners as needed.
- Clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces including doorknobs, light switches, counters, and shared equipment.
- Clean interior windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.
Deep Cleaning & Facility Maintenance
- Perform scheduled deep-cleaning tasks such as carpet extraction, appliance cleaning, wall washing, and seasonal sanitation routines.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs or addressing simple fixture upkeep (does not include specialized repairs).
- Identifyand report facility maintenance needs or safety hazards to the supervisor.
Facilities & Operational Support
- Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked janitorial supply area; track inventory and notify supervisor when restocking is needed.
- Support meeting room readiness, including basic setup and breakdown as needed.
- Perform limited groundskeeping such as walkway sweeping, litter pickup, and seasonal debris removal.
Equipment Use & Safety
- Safelyoperatecustodial tools and light power equipment such as vacuums, carpet extractors, and leaf blowers.
- Follow all safety procedures related to chemical handling, equipmentuse, and workplace hazards.
General Expectations
- Maintain a consistent and reliable work schedule.
- Communicate professionally with staff and visitors while working in shared spaces.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position requirements
Education & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred but notrequired.
- Mustpass a background check.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety practices, including safe chemical handling and basic ladder/fall protection.
- Ability to safelyoperatecustodial equipment and tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
- Reliable attendance and dependability.
- Effective communication and professional demeanor.
Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:
- Must obtain criminal clearances asrequired. These could include: the Washington criminal history check, FBI criminal history check, and child abuse clearancesin accordance withDSHSand DVRregulations.
- Mustpass a drug screen.
- Valid driver’s license with driving record that meets agency policy.
- Mustmaintainalltraining andcertificationsrequirements each year.
PHYSICAL Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull.
- Ability tolift upto 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely use manual and powered custodial equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals and custodial supplies.
- Work may involve wet or slippery surfaces and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions when performing groundskeeping tasks.
