Job Description
MAJOR PURPOSE OF THIS JOB:
This position will manage and assist with directing the execution of URAC’s state government relations program. Working with URAC subject matter experts, state officials, government leaders, and their staffs, this position will proactively execute and advance URAC’s policies, positions, and strategies at the state government level. This role will support the Director, State Relations, and Vice President, Government Relations and Public Affairs, in supporting our mission to advance the quality of health care through leadership, accreditation, measurement, and innovation.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Works directly with the Director, State Relations, to execute URAC’s state government relations program by advocating for laws, regulations, and policies favorable to the organization’s business functions
• Collaborate closely with URAC’s Federal Relations staff and other URAC departments to develop and advance URAC’s government relations strategies and goals
• Assists with the creation, development and deployment of resources to advance URAC’s public policy goals, including policy memos, issue briefs, and regular reports
• Identify, monitor and respond to state legislative and regulatory proposals, as well as executive orders and related state guidance documents
• Guidance, implementation and management of URAC’s state government relations strategy and legislative agenda, including tracking legislation and engagement with state officials
• Engage with URAC staff for the development and advancement of policy solutions to advance the organization’s policy priorities at the state level
• Conduct policy analyses and research on state health care policy issues impacting accreditation and certification, analyze legislation and regulations for their impact, and create policy analysis and resources for use in state government relations outreach
• Manage and implement state government relations strategy to include legislative and regulatory campaigns that advance the organization’s objective and policy priorities
• Engage with external audiences, public officials, and URAC staff to develop and implement URAC’s state government relations strategies
• Deliver presentations and provide remarks to internal and external audiences to advance URAC’s state government relations goals and priorities
Requirements:EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
• 3-5 years of experience working in state government policy and advocacy. This may include working with state agencies, trade associations, state focused coalitions and advocacy groups, state legislative staff, state-focused consulting firms, and/or comparable government service.
• Proven track record of monitoring, tracking and responding to state legislative and regulatory proposals, as well as project management experience
• Understanding and awareness of current health policy issues with an interest in continuous learning to advance patient safety and health care quality
• Excellent research, writing, and public speaking skills
• Experience managing multiple priorities and projects to accomplish government relations goals and outcomes
• Ability to demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and ability tow ork independently
• Comfort working with teammates that work on both hybrid and fully remote schedules
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders on public policy issues
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree required; Graduate degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Health, or Public Administration preferred.
