The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of CPCD’s transportation services, including the direct supervision of transportation staff and driving routes. This position plans, coordinates, and monitors transportation activities to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant services for children enrolled in CPCD programs. The role ensures effective integration of all service components to support high quality, comprehensive services for children and familiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervision:
  1. Provides day-to-day supervision of assigned staff and, through strong interpersonal communication and leading by example, fosters a culture grounded in CPCD’s mission, core behaviors, and staff engagement.
  2. Partners with Senior Director of Family Resources and Human Resources to support hiring, orientation, performance improvement plans, and Professional Development Plans. Monitors and evaluates staff performance in alignment with the agency’s performance planning and appraisal process. Recommends disciplinary action and termination of employment when necessary.
  3. Oversees attendance and leave management for assigned staff, including scheduling paid and unpaid time off, and processing requests for leaves of absence and Family Medical Leave (FMLA/FAMLI).
  4. Ensures assigned staff maintain all required licenses, certifications, and credentials, including CDL endorsements, DOT physicals, CPR/First Aid certifications, and other regulatory requirements.
  5. Observes and evaluates staff performance and recommends improvements to strengthen the quality and effectiveness of transportation services..

Transportation Operations

  1. Plans, develops, and adjusts transportation routes, schedules, and service delivery to maximize efficiency, safety, and access for children and families while ensuring compliance with program requirements.
  2. Coordinates transportation staffing and provides direct transportation support as needed to ensure continuity of services during staff absences, vacancies, emergencies, and periods of increased demand.
  3. Collaborates with program leadership, staff, families, and community partners to identify transportation needs and improve service delivery.
  4. Coordinates transportation eligibility, enrollment, service prioritization, and waitlist management to ensure available transportation resources are allocated effectively and equitably in accordance with program requirements and family needs.

Compliance Quality Assurance and safety:

  1. Ensures the Transportation Department operates safely and efficiently in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, CPCD policies and procedures, Federal and State Department of Transportation regulations, and Colorado School Bus Laws.
  2. Monitors and facilitates the resolution of parent, staff, and community concerns in a timely, professional, and customer-focused manner.
  3. Develops, implements, and monitors transportation procedures, systems, and documentation in collaboration with the Transportation Support Specialist.
  4. Oversees fleet utilization, vehicle readiness, maintenance schedules, and required safety inspections. Ensures all maintenance and safety documentation is completed accurately and on time.
  5. Investigates transportation-related incidents, accidents, complaints, and safety concerns. Implements corrective actions and preventative measures to reduce risk and improve service quality.
  6. Works with the Transportation Support Specialist to complete monthly, annual, and other required transportation reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with agency and regulatory requirements.

Driving:

  1. Performs all duties of a Bus Driver when assigned to a route, including transporting children safely, conducting daily pre- and post-trip inspections, supervising emergency evacuation procedures, managing student behavior, and completing required documentation.

Requirements:

  • An Associate’s degree in Management, Business or closely-related field.
  • Some supervisory experience and training in supervisory skills.
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of computers and computer software programs such as Microsoft office, Outlook and other software programs.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in effective communication, teamwork and interaction with peers.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the mechanical operation of a vehicle to include daily pre and post trip vehicle inspections.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to perform job duties and maintain minimum liability insurance as determined by the state of Colorado.
  • Successfully complete a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination, TB screening, drug screening (including marijuana), and background check and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report prior to employment. (Annual Health Check, Physical Examination, and Drug Screening periodically thereafter.)
  • Must have a Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements (PIL) within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment and must be kept current.

Physical & Strength Demands:

Job involves standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling.

Job requires the ability to exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.

Reasoning: Apply principles of logical and/or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret s variety of instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form. Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Language Development:

Reading: Read manuals, forms, books, newspaper, journals, abstracts, policies and procedures, and other documents written in the English language.

Writing: Write letters, memorandums, business reports, manuals, and other documents in the English language.

Speaking: Conversant in the English language in the theory, principles, and methods of effective and persuasive speaking, discussion, and debate.

Technology: Ability to use computer to complete job tasks, key-boarding, word processing, spreadsheets, database, report writing, electronic presentation, web navigation, e-mail management, file management & Windows Explorer, scanner knowledge, copyright knowledge, computer security knowledge, etc.

Mathematical: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the four operations with like common and decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate, and percent. Draw and interpret bar graphs as needed. Perform arithmetic operations involving all American monetary units.
