Job Description

The Digital Marketing Manager leads Stelter’s digital marketing strategy and service offerings, with primary focus on email marketing, marketing automation, social media and paid media. This role is responsible for shaping and evolving the agency’s digital marketing vision, overseeing day-to-day execution and managing a high-performing team that delivers both productized programs and custom client solutions for clients in the nonprofit sector.


Working closely with sales, client strategy and delivery teams, the Digital Marketing Manager serves as a subject matter expert in digital marketing and supports business development efforts by translating client needs into effective, measurable campaigns. This role provides hands-on leadership for the email marketing and marketing automation programs while guiding the growth and maturity of Stelter’s social and paid media offerings. Through close collaboration with internal stakeholders, this position ensures digital marketing solutions are strategically sound, aligned with client goals and executed with consistency and quality across all engagements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Digital Marketing Strategy and Service Leadership
  • Help lead the strategic direction and evolution of Stelter’s digital marketing offerings, including email, marketing automation, social media and paid media

  • Translate organizational goals into scalable digital marketing solutions that support client experiences, operational efficiency and digital product evolution

  • Stay current on digital marketing trends, platform changes and emerging opportunities, including AI and automation, and translating into service or process enhancements

  • Stays current and provides insight on the evolving role digital plays in philanthropy

  • Partner with leadership to ensure digital marketing services align with agency growth goals and client needs

  • Provide guidance on project planning, resource needs and ROI considerations related to digital marketing solutions

2. Email Marketing and Marketing Automation Leadership
  • Lead Stelter’s email marketing and marketing automation program offering, including strategy, frameworks and ongoing optimization

  • Provide strategic oversight to email and automation execution, ensuring best practices in personalization, accessibility, deliverability and performance

  • Guide development of automated journeys, lifecycle programs and behavior-based campaigns

  • Support the Email Marketing and Automation Specialist through coaching, prioritization and quality oversight

  • Partner with data and systems teams to ensure marketing automation is supported by strong data structures and integrations

3. Social Media and Paid Media Strategy Leadership
  • Lead the growth and evolution of Stelter’s social media and paid media offerings

  • Maintain and expand SOPs, campaign offering and measurement standards for paid campaigns across Meta platforms, Google Ads (search and display), YouTube and related properties

  • Provide hands-on execution and/or strategic guidance for campaign setup, targeting, creative direction and optimization

  • Evaluate emerging paid and social platforms for future offering expansion

4. Custom Campaign Strategy, Measurement and Optimization
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in digital marketing within the nonprofit sector to support the sales process and client conversations

  • Collaborate with sales and client strategists to understand client goals and develop compelling digital marketing recommendations, including timelines, channel mix and success metrics

  • Support proposal development, estimates and scope definition for digital marketing programs

  • Participate in prospect meetings as needed to help articulate strategy and close new business

  • Define KPIs and ROI measures for digital marketing programs and ensure performance is tracked and communicated effectively

  • Review campaign results and guide optimization strategies based on performance data and insights in partnership with strategy team

5. Security and Compliance
  • Ensure all digital marketing programs adhere to applicable privacy laws, regulations and industry standards, including CAN-SPAM and other email and digital communication requirements

  • Maintain awareness of evolving regulations related to digital marketing, data privacy and consent within the nonprofit sector, and assess potential impacts to email, automation, social and paid media programs

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure proper handling of subscriber data, consent management and opt-in or opt-out processes across digital channels

  • Establish and reinforce best practices for compliant list usage, targeting, personalization and campaign execution

7. Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
  • Collaborate with digital marketing, web, analytics and client strategy teams to align system capabilities with business needs

  • Provide technical consultation during project scoping and client discussions involving custom solutions or advanced integrations

  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve cross-team efficiency

  • Promote a culture of innovation, recommending enhancements to improve digital marketing services through structured documentation and product roadmaps

  • Stays on top of the latest digital marketing and technology trends and recommends best practices related to digital platforms and broader digital experience, including UX, AI integrations and accessibility considerations.

  • Support internal training and enablement efforts related to digital marketing best practices and new offerings

8. Team Leadership and Resource Management

  • Manage day-to-day operations for email marketing and marketing automation staff, ensuring work is prioritized and delivered to established standards

  • Provide coaching, mentorship and growth opportunities for digital marketing team members

  • Assess team capacity, support resource planning and coordinate workload distribution

  • Foster a collaborative environment where team feels empowered to innovate and solve problems

  • Support hiring, onboarding and training for technical roles within Digital and Data Services

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong experience in digital marketing strategy across email, marketing automation, social media and paid media

  • Hands-on experience setting up and managing paid campaigns on Meta platforms required

  • Experience with YouTube and Google Ads platforms required

  • Experience with email marketing and marketing automation platforms required, Salesforce Marketing Cloud preferred

  • Ability to analyze campaign performance and translate data into actionable insights

  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills with a focus on data-driven decision making


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing/digital marketing, information technology, digital communications, graphic/web design, or equivalent work experience.

  • 6+ years of professional web development or related experience

  • Managing/directing people a plus
