Job Description

Senior Software Developer, Post-Trade Management

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Developer, Post-Trade Management based in Canada.

As a Senior Software Developer, you’ll build and evolve critical systems that power post-trade processing behind the scenes.
You’ll work across clearing, settlement, and inventory reconciliation for multiple external depositories and financial products.
Your work will support systems processing billions of dollars and serving millions of customers, making reliability and accuracy essential.
You’ll tackle complex technical challenges, design scalable automations, and influence the future architecture of post-trade processing pipelines.
The role offers close collaboration with Operations, Product, and Engineering teams so you can understand the business context behind every technical decision.
You’ll join a collaborative team that values pair programming, mentoring, thoughtful engineering, and continuous learning.
This is an opportunity to make a significant impact in a high-stakes financial technology environment while working with modern development and AI-assisted engineering practices.

Accountabilities
  • Design, build, and deliver post-trade automations across multiple external depositories, supporting both existing financial products and new product launches.
  • Develop and improve the software responsible for critical post-trade workflows, including clearing, settlement, and inventory reconciliation.
  • Contribute to technical architecture and design decisions that shape the evolution, scalability, reliability, and maintainability of post-trade processing pipelines.
  • Investigate complex systems and business processes in depth, developing a strong understanding of how different components interact across the broader ecosystem.
  • Collaborate directly with Securities Operations, Product Management, and other Engineering teams to understand business needs and translate them into robust technical solutions.
  • Mentor fellow developers through pair programming, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and real-time feedback.
  • Maintain high standards of correctness, reliability, auditability, and operational resilience in systems where small errors can have significant consequences.
  • Use AI-powered development tools thoughtfully to accelerate engineering workflows, explore ideas, and improve productivity while maintaining strong technical judgment.
  • Identify problems proactively and take ownership of resolving them rather than waiting for issues to surface elsewhere.
  • Contribute to a team culture focused on collective success, continuous improvement, curiosity, and thoughtful technical decision-making.
Requirements
  • Senior-level backend software development experience, with strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering complex automations, integrations, or data pipelines in production environments.
  • Experience building or maintaining high-stakes, high-accuracy systems where correctness, reliability, traceability, and auditability are essential.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to make sound technical design decisions in complex systems.
  • Experience mentoring other engineers through code reviews, pair programming, technical guidance, or day-to-day feedback.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders, including Operations, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Strong curiosity and a willingness to investigate unfamiliar systems and domains until you understand how they work.
  • A proactive ownership mindset, with a tendency to identify and solve problems rather than leave them for others.
  • Strong attention to detail and an understanding of how seemingly small technical errors can compound in financial systems.
  • Ability to rapidly build context across teams, technologies, and interconnected systems.
  • Experience with Java or Kotlin is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with React or other front-end frameworks is a plus.
  • Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, AWS, or comparable technologies is beneficial.
  • Previous FinTech experience or exposure to ledgers, brokerage, custody, clearing, or settlement systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience working within regulated, compliance-sensitive, or similarly high-accountability engineering environments is an advantage.
  • Comfortable using AI tools as part of modern software development while applying appropriate technical judgment and review.
Benefits
  • Compensation: CA$151,200–CA$189,000 base salary, with exceptional candidates potentially considered above the stated range.
  • Equity: Permanent employees receive equity compensation as part of the overall package.
  • Health coverage: Comprehensive health benefits and life insurance.
  • Retirement savings: Long-term group savings with an employer matching program.
  • Paid time off: 20 vacation days, four wellness days, and unlimited sick and mental health days annually.
  • Work from abroad: Ability to work outside Canada for up to 90 days per year.
  • Remote flexibility: Work as part of a distributed team spanning North America.
  • Employee communities: Access to employee resource groups supporting communities including 2SLGBTQ+, women, and Black employees.
  • Learning and innovation: Work in an environment that encourages experimentation with new technologies, AI tools, and better ways of solving problems.
  • Collaborative culture: Join a highly talented team that values curiosity, thoughtful execution, knowledge sharing, and collective success.
  • Inclusive workplace: A commitment to diversity, accessibility, and creating an environment where people from different backgrounds can thrive.
