About Us

CRM Blast & Paint provides industrial surface preparation and coating application services supporting pipeline integrity, structural steel, and corrosion protection projects. As part of The HR Group family of companies, we're committed to quality workmanship, safety, and continuous improvement across every project we deliver.

Position Summary

We're looking for an experienced QA/QC Manager to lead quality assurance and quality control efforts across our industrial coatings and surface preparation projects. This role owns inspection standards, documentation, and non-conformance processes, ensures compliance with SSPC/AMPP requirements, and drives our Quality Management System (QMS) forward — including maintaining and advancing our SSPC QP1/QP2 certification standing. A key part of this role is training and developing field crews so quality practices are understood and consistently applied on every job.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and perform surface preparation and coating inspections in accordance with SSPC/AMPP standards and project specifications
  • Conduct and/or review pre-job, in-process, and final inspections, including:
    • Surface profile measurement
    • Environmental monitoring (temperature, humidity, dew point)
    • Wet/dry film thickness (WFT/DFT) readings
    • Holiday (electrical) testing
    • Adhesion testing
  • Verify coating materials, batch/lot numbers, and mix ratios against manufacturer data sheets
  • Maintain accurate, well-organized QC documentation and inspection reports across all active projects
  • Identify and document non-conformances; lead root-cause analysis and corrective action processes
  • Own and continuously improve the company's Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Lead compliance efforts and maintain readiness for SSPC QP1 (shop) and/or QP2 (field) certification requirements
  • Develop and deliver QA/QC training programs for field crews, covering inspection procedures, documentation standards, and SSPC/AMPP requirements
  • Mentor and evaluate field personnel on proper QA/QC practices, providing hands-on coaching during job-site inspections
  • Calibrate and maintain inspection instruments per manufacturer and industry requirements
  • Coordinate with project managers, crew leads, and client representatives on quality expectations and project-specific requirements
  • Report on quality metrics, training completion, and program status to leadership
  • Follow all site safety protocols and support a strong safety culture on every job
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Several years of experience in industrial coatings inspection, surface preparation, or a related field (pipeline, structural steel, marine, or similar), including some experience leading or mentoring others
  • Working knowledge of SSPC/AMPP coating and surface prep standards
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort with technical documentation
  • Comfortable developing and delivering training to field crews
  • Ability to travel to job sites as needed
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred (a plus, not required):

  • NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector certification (Level 1, 2, or 3), or actively working toward one
  • Experience implementing or managing a Quality Management System (e.g., ISO 9001 or similar framework)
  • Experience within an SSPC QP1 and/or QP2 certified shop or field program
  • Prior experience designing or leading formal training programs for field personnel
  • Background in cathodic protection, pipeline integrity, or corrosion control industries
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors and at active industrial job sites
  • Must be able to climb, work at heights, and wear required PPE for extended periods
  • May involve confined space entry (training provided)
  • Some overnight travel required depending on project location
What We Offer
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • On the job training
  • Opportunities for certification support and career growth within The HR Group family of companies
