Workday Extend Architect

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Workday Extend Architect based in Australia.

As a Workday Extend Architect, you will lead the design and delivery of tailored applications using the Workday Extend platform.
You will work directly with customers to understand complex business needs and translate them into scalable, commercially viable solutions.
The role combines technical architecture, hands-on implementation, customer engagement, and strategic consulting.
You will take ownership across the full solution lifecycle, from scoping and requirements gathering through deployment and ongoing support.
You will also help shape best practices and strengthen Extend capabilities across a specialist Workday practice.
The environment is collaborative, customer-focused, and globally connected, with flexibility to work remotely.
This is an opportunity to influence modern HR technology while mentoring others and helping organizations solve meaningful business challenges.

Accountabilities
  • Lead Workday Extend projects from initial scoping and requirements gathering through architecture, development, deployment, and support.
  • Design and implement applications that address complex business and technical requirements while remaining scalable, maintainable, and commercially viable.
  • Work closely with customers to understand their needs, challenge requirements where appropriate, manage expectations, and ensure solutions are fit for purpose.
  • Apply expertise across Workday Extend and related technologies to deliver robust solutions aligned with customer objectives.
  • Develop strong, trusted relationships with customer stakeholders and communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, solution design, technical documentation, and implementation approaches.
  • Collaborate with specialist consultants and wider project teams to ensure successful delivery of Extend solutions.
  • Guide and educate colleagues within the Workday practice, sharing knowledge and establishing effective approaches to Extend development.
  • Support the adoption of relevant technologies, development techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Present solutions and recommendations to senior client stakeholders with clarity, credibility, and impact.
  • Balance customer priorities, technical considerations, project deadlines, and commercial requirements when making decisions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across the practice by identifying opportunities to enhance capabilities, processes, and solution quality.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated proficiency with XML, REST, SOAP, and JSON, together with knowledge of an object-oriented programming language, preferably J2EE.
  • Workday HCM certification or relevant experience with comparable HCM or ERP platforms.
  • Proven experience designing applications that solve complex business and technical challenges.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing, web services, integrations, and the associated technical challenges.
  • Excellent customer focus, with the ability to assess needs, build strong relationships, manage expectations, and confidently escalate or challenge when necessary.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
  • Experience presenting technical solutions and recommendations to senior client audiences.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of project delivery, business priorities, and customer dynamics.
  • Broad knowledge of business and technology, with awareness of trends across HR technology and the wider industry.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and make balanced, well-reasoned decisions under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities, combined with a practical approach to solution design.
  • Experience with middleware or other application development platforms is a plus.
  • Additional proficiency in object-oriented programming or web development languages is advantageous.
  • Experience designing workflows to solve business and technical problems is desirable.
  • Previous experience managing, mentoring, or developing technical teams is beneficial.
  • A collaborative, adaptable, and proactive approach, with a willingness to share knowledge and contribute to the growth of others.
Benefits
  • Fully remote working opportunity within Australia.
  • Opportunity to work on impactful Workday Extend projects for a diverse range of customers.
  • Collaboration with specialist consultants and experienced professionals in the Workday ecosystem.
  • Opportunities to develop expertise in emerging HR technology and cloud-based solutions.
  • Significant scope for professional growth, knowledge sharing, and career development.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the evolution of Extend capabilities and best practices.
  • People-first, collaborative, and inclusive working environment.
  • Flexible remote-working culture designed to support different working styles.
  • Access to a supportive talent acquisition team and accommodations throughout the recruitment process where required.
  • Opportunity to work within a global technology organization serving healthcare, commercial, and public-sector clients.
