Job Description

Job Title: Summer Patrol - Approx. June 11-Septmeber 28

Location: Mount Washington Alpine Resort, Vancouver Island, British Columbia

Reports to: Patrol Director

Position Type: Seasonal, Full-time/Part-time

Wage: Hourly (based on experience and qualifications)

JOB SUMMARY

Summer patrollers at Mount Washington Aline Resort provide for and ensure a reasonably safe recreation environment for our guests. They provide on-mountain assistance, guest safety, first aid, in-bounds search and rescue, trail work, lift evacuation, equipment maintenance, and other assigned duties. Individuals will be responsible for all mountain duties as required to facilitate the smooth and safe operation of the recreation environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervising and promoting guest safety
  • Administering first aid and transporting injured patients off the mountain
  • Safe operation of UTVs and MTCs
  • Performing sweeps at the end of the day to ensure all guests are safely off the mountain
  • Maintaining and marking hiking trails
  • Setting up mountain safety equipment
  • Transporting supplies and equipment
  • Self-evacuation and the evacuation of guests from a chairlift
  • Rope rescue of guests from difficult terrain
  • Incident investigations
  • Completing WorkSafeBC documentation for injured workers
  • Enforcement of the Mountain Biker’s Responsibility Code, resort policies and terrain closures
  • Other assigned duties

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Advanced First Aid (preferred) or equivalent
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
  • Previous patrol experience, an asset
  • Rope rescue/access certification, an asset
  • S-100 Fire Suppression, an asset
  • Ability to work extended hours outside in various weather conditions
  • Able to lift, carry and ski with up to 50lbs/20kg

WORKING CONDITIONS

Patrollers perform most of their duties outdoors and may work in all different kinds of weather conditions. Hours of operation are weather dependent. Due to the nature of the business, this position requires flexibility in terms of your work schedule. A variety of work schedules may include rotation of shifts, day/evening shifts, and weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts require standing for long periods of time, lifting, twisting, shoveling, and other forms of manual tasks.
