The Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the company's Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) systems across operational sites. The role focuses on promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring compliance with legal and company requirements, and providing practical health and safety support to operational teams.
The Health and Safety Advisor will be primarily site-based, working closely with site teams, contractors and management to ensure safe systems of work are implemented and maintained. Attendance at the office will be required as requested to support operational requirements, meetings, audits, trainings coordination and HSQE initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Site Health & Safety Support
- Conduct regular site audits to monitor compliance with company procedures and legislative requirements.
- provide practical health and safety guidance and support to site management and operational teams
- Assist in the development and implementation of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
- Promote safe working practices and intervene where unsafe acts or conditions are identified
- Support operational teams in maintaining high standards of housekeeping and site safety
Safety Critical Equipment Management
- Coordinate inspections, servicing, certification, calibration and replacements schedules where required
- Update equipment registers and maintain accurate tracking of equipment status and locations
- Support distribution and delivery of equipment to operational sites when necessary
- Monitor compliance relating to safety critical equipment and ensure records remain current and accessible
Drug & Alcohol Testing Coordination
- Carry out planned (new start/contractual) and reactive drug and alcohol testing programs
Incident Management
- Assist with the reporting, investigation and documentation of accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences
- Support root cause analysis investigations and implementation of corrective and preventative actions
- Maintain accurate incident records and contribute to trend analysis and reporting
- Promote lessons learned and safety awareness following incidents or safety alerts
Training & Safety Engagement
- Deliver site safety inductions and toolbox talks where required
- Support coordination of mandatory health and safety training for employees and contractors
- Promote employee engagement in safety initiatives and behavioural safety programmes
- Assis in the development of safety campaigns and awareness initiatives across operational sites
- Facilitate feedback from operational staff
Contractor & Operational Support
- Monitor contractor compliance with company and site-specific safety requirements
- Support permit-to-work systems and high risk activity controls where applicable
Emergency Preparedness & Welfare
- Support emergency preparedness arrangements including fire safety, first aid and evacuation procedures on site
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate inspection, audit and compliance records
- Contribute to preparation of HSQE reports, statistics and KPI data
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety performance
- Support implementation of company safety initiatives and improvement plans
Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) preferred
- Full UK driving licence required
- Additional HSQE qualifications or training advantageous
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage at all levles
- Strong organisational and administrative abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple site priorities
- Good report writing and documentation skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to positively influence safety behaviours and promote a proactive safety culture
Work Environment
- Primarily site-based role across operational locations
- Attendance at company offices will be required as requested to support operational requirements
- Regular interaction with operational teams, contractors and external stakeholders
