Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Research and Development Systems Engineer based in United States.
This role is centered on designing and architecting complex, multi-domain systems that support advanced defense and mission-critical applications. You will operate at the intersection of systems engineering, architecture design, and cross-disciplinary integration, helping translate operational needs into structured, scalable technical solutions. The position involves defining system architectures, decomposing complex capabilities into modular components, and ensuring seamless integration across hardware and software domains. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to maintain architectural integrity throughout the full system lifecycle. A strong emphasis is placed on analytical rigor, requirements traceability, and systems-level thinking in high-stakes environments. The role also involves contributing to technical documentation, trade studies, and decision-making processes that influence long-term system design. This is a highly technical and mission-driven environment supporting defense and national security innovation.
- Define and develop system architectures for complex, multi-domain defense and mission-critical systems using systems engineering principles
- Lead requirements analysis, functional decomposition, and allocation across system hierarchies to ensure traceable and scalable designs
- Design modular architectures and decompose systems into interoperable subsystems and components
- Develop and maintain system documentation including interface control documents, architecture diagrams, and technical specifications
- Conduct trade studies and alternatives analysis to evaluate design approaches and optimize system performance
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure integration consistency and architectural integrity across development phases
- Support verification and validation planning to ensure systems meet operational and mission requirements
- Communicate technical concepts, architecture decisions, and engineering recommendations to stakeholders and program partners
- (For senior-level scope) Support mentorship, coordination, and technical oversight of engineering activities and external engagements
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, system architecture design, or complex system development
- Strong background in system decomposition, functional analysis, interface management, and modular system design
- Experience designing hardware-software integrated systems (non-IT enterprise or network architecture focus)
- Solid understanding of systems engineering principles, lifecycle development, and requirements management
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills
- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts through documentation, reports, and stakeholder presentations
- Experience with defense, aerospace, or mission-critical systems is highly desirable
- (Preferred) Experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo or MagicDraw, DoDAF/UAF frameworks, and digital engineering practices
- (Preferred) Familiarity with requirements tools (DOORS, Jama), simulation tools (MATLAB, Simulink), and MOSA/open systems architectures
- Must be eligible to obtain U.S. government security clearance and meet applicable citizenship requirements
Benefits:
- Competitive salary ranging from 86,300 USD to 164,000 USD depending on experience and qualifications
- Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Retirement plans designed to support long-term financial stability
- Generous paid time off including vacation, holidays, and sick leave
- Significant tuition assistance program supporting continued education and family members
- Access to a mission-driven environment working on high-impact national defense projects
- Opportunities for professional development in advanced systems engineering and defense technologies
- Flexible work arrangements may be available depending on project needs and location requirements
