Job Description

Job Summary:

Performs engineering work to minimize environmental risks and ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements. The work requires a knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of engineering concerned with facilities and systems for controlling pollution and protecting quality of resources and the environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction on environmental regulatory policies, programs, or activities by establishing standards, promoting improvements, and evaluating compliance.
  • Prepare and track permit applications such as air, NPDES, wastewater, or hazard waste permits.
  • Develop environmental written program documents such as SPCC, SWPPP, and FRP.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and divisional personnel to direct environmental efforts and interact with outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as technical resource person for plant and facility staff for environmental issues.
  • Collect and synthesize data derived from monitoring activities.
  • Monitor compliance with environmental standards and best practices. Supports audit and self-assessment processes.
  • Effectively communicate issues associated with environmental maintenance and compliance to management, facility personnel and other government agencies.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety requirements.
  • Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • There are no supervisory responsibilities in this position

Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s in Environmental Science; Engineering; Science or related field.
  • Experience: Less than 3 years

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of environmental sciences, especially those areas of biology, chemistry, and engineering which relate to pollution control principles.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and environmental reporting includes, but not limited to, hazardous waste, air, NPDES, and wastewater.
  • Technical writing skills
  • Strong root cause investigation techniques
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks to completion.
  • Problem-solving, research and resolution, data analysis skills.
  • Excellent follow-up skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills in individual and group situations
  • Interacts and works efficiently with co-workers and outside vendors/agencies in a professional manner.
  • Follow all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description.
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety, environmental, quality, and HR policies at all times.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting.
  • Frequent travel to different site locations (25%) is required.
  • Typical physical demands include a high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC.
  • Occasional work at heights up to 250 feet, climb stairs/ladders and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying 5 to 30 pounds.
