Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Commercial Banking Officer is responsible for driving business development efforts within an assigned market area, with a focus on cultivating new or enhanced deposit relationships and building a robust portfolio of commercial loans. This role involves evaluating, structuring, and recommending approval for commercial loans, while also ensuring exceptional client service, portfolio growth, and adherence to sound banking practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Portfolio Growth & Referrals
- Seek out prospective business and corporate clients, actively soliciting high-quality new loan and deposit relationships.
- Participate in community activities to enhance the Bank’s visibility and develop business opportunities.
- Achieve individual and departmental sales goals through new business, referrals, and retention of account relationships.
- Proactively cross-sell additional products through referrals and outbound calling to build long-term client relationships.
- Analyze potential commercial loan markets and develop targeted prospecting strategies.
- Maintain current knowledge of financial markets, industry trends, and technology.
Lending & Customer Service
- Meet with clients to understand their business goals and financial needs, recommending customized banking solutions.
- Demonstrate personal commitment to excellence in sales and service to both customers and colleagues.
- Address customer inquiries and complaints promptly, referring to specialists as needed.
- Stay informed on new lending, treasury management, and financial service products.
- Negotiate payment arrangements with clients on delinquent loans and handle resolution or escalation appropriately.
- Prepare delinquency reports and coordinate collection actions when necessary.
Loan Operations
- Analyze applicants’ financial status, creditworthiness, and collateral to determine loan feasibility.
- Collect, review, and assess credit histories, financial statements, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure loan agreements are complete, accurate, and compliant with policies and standards.
- Approve loans within established lending authority and escalate those exceeding limits.
- Monitor loan portfolio performance, ensuring compliance with policies and approval conditions.
- Conduct site visits at client locations to assess business operations and collateral.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBLITIES
- Provide guidance to credit staff and junior lenders in analyzing financial data for new or renewed loans.
- Develop strong professional relationships with colleagues across departments and with external partners.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in similar job duties
