Position Summary
Facilities Team Members are responsible for helping maintain the GRACE campus in a clean, safe, sanitary, and functional condition. This role includes routine janitorial work, basic maintenance support, campus inspections, supply stocking, special projects, and response to urgent facility needs as they arise.
This is a front-line position. Facilities Team Members interact directly with guests, staff, volunteers, visitors, and community partners throughout the day. Every interaction should reflect GRACE’s core values of Safety, Impact, and Respect.
The Facilities team works together to support the full campus. Team members may assist with both janitorial and maintenance-related tasks depending on campus needs, individual skills, training, and assigned priorities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Clean designated building areas (dusting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning)
- Stock, organize, and maintain supply rooms, cleaning closets, restrooms, and shared-use areas.
- Perform and document routine inspections of buildings, restrooms, equipment, safety items, and campus conditions.
- Assist with basic maintenance tasks, adjustments, and minor repairs as assigned.
- Support larger maintenance projects, deep cleans, and special projects.
- Identify and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, supply needs, damages, and urgent facility issues.
- Use basic hand tools, power tools, cleaning equipment, and campus equipment safely and appropriately.
- Respond to emergency cleaning, facility, weather-related, or safety situations as needed.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments about work orders, priorities, and campus needs.
- Provide respectful, professional, trauma-informed service to guests during all interactions.
- Follow GRACE policies, safety procedures, chemical handling guidelines, and assigned documentation processes.
- Participate in training and cross-training related to janitorial work, maintenance, safety, equipment use, and guest interaction.
Requirements
- Ability to safely and confidently use basic hand tools and common power tools.
- Previous hands-on experience with maintenance, repairs, construction, landscaping, facilities work, or a related trade.
- Ability to perform minor repairs, adjustments, installations, and maintenance tasks with appropriate supervision and training.
- Willingness to perform both janitorial and maintenance-related work as part of a shared Facilities team.
- Ability to work independently and stay productive with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational, communication, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to interact with guests, staff, volunteers, and visitors in a professional, respectful, and trauma-informed manner.
- Willingness to continue learning new skills and participate in cross-training.
- Ability to work mornings, weekends, holidays, and during urgent campus needs as scheduled.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with basic plumbing repairs, fixture repairs, door hardware, furniture assembly, patching, painting, basic carpentry, or general building maintenance.
- Experience using power tools, pressure washers, ladders, hand tools, and similar equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot simple facility problems and communicate what materials, tools, or support are needed.
- Experience working in shelters, housing programs, schools, healthcare, hospitality, property management, maintenance, or other high-use facilities.
- Basic computer skills; experience with Slack, work order systems, or similar tools.
Physical, Emotional, and Mental Demands
GRACE operates using a Housing First philosophy, which means our work is focused on ending homelessness, not only meeting immediate needs. Facilities Team Members play an important role in that mission by helping keep the campus clean, safe, welcoming, and functional for the people we serve.
This role is physically active. GRACE is a 23-acre campus, and Facilities Team Members should expect to be on their feet for much of the day, walk between buildings, climb stairs, bend, kneel, reach, lift, carry supplies, move equipment, and perform cleaning or maintenance tasks in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions.
This role can also be emotionally and mentally demanding. Facilities Team Members work around people experiencing homelessness, many of whom may be carrying significant trauma, stress, grief, health challenges, or crisis situations. Staff are expected to maintain professional boundaries, communicate respectfully, and use trauma-informed approaches during guest interactions.
GRACE provides training and support, including training related to Trauma-Informed Care, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, safety procedures, and other relevant topics. Applicants should understand the demands of this work and come prepared to care for themselves outside of work in healthy and sustainable ways.
Culture and Benefits
GRACE is a fast-paced, mission-driven organization filled with people who care deeply about ending homelessness. Our programs, including day services, emergency shelter, permanent housing, volunteer services, and campus operations, are organized around three core values: Safety, Impact, and Respect.
The Facilities team is essential to the daily operation of the campus. This team helps create the conditions that allow guests, staff, and programs to function safely and effectively. GRACE values teamwork, flexibility, accountability, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay: $16 per hour
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Benefits: Eligible for health, dental, and life insurance
