TOEFL Assessment Consultant (Contract) in India at Jobgether

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a TOEFL Assessment Consultant (Contract) based in India.

This is a fully remote contract opportunity for an experienced ESL/TESOL professional supporting learners preparing for the TOEFL exam.
You’ll evaluate student responses using established assessment rubrics and help ensure scoring is accurate, consistent, and fair.
The role combines language expertise with structured assessment, written feedback, and quality assurance.
You’ll develop deep expertise in specific TOEFL question types and the standards used to evaluate them.
You’ll also collaborate with fellow reviewers and an internal team through peer review and calibration activities.
The position offers flexibility to work independently while contributing to a broader effort to improve the quality of online assessment content.
It’s well suited to multilingual ESL/TESOL professionals who are detail-oriented, self-directed, and passionate about helping adult learners succeed.

• Review and evaluate learner responses to TOEFL and TESOL practice questions using established scoring rubrics and evaluation criteria.
• Review and edit written feedback provided to learners, ensuring it is accurate, clear, constructive, and aligned with the applicable rubric.
• Develop in-depth familiarity with assigned TOEFL question types, such as Write an Email, Virtual Interview, or Academic Discussion, including how responses should be structured and scored.
• Apply assessment standards consistently while identifying the strengths and weaknesses of learner responses.
• Participate in peer-review activities by comparing evaluations with those of other contractors and grader-generated scores to support scoring consistency and accuracy.
• Contribute to ongoing quality assurance by identifying discrepancies, clarifying assessment standards, and maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Work independently as a remote contractor while communicating regularly with fellow reviewers and the internal team.
• Stay informed about relevant developments in TOEFL assessment practices and current exam formats where applicable.

• Bachelor’s degree in English, ESL, Education, or a related field.
• TESOL certification.
• At least 5 years of experience working with adult ESL learners.
• At least 1 year of experience teaching or tutoring TOEFL specifically.
• Non-native English speaker with native-level proficiency in multiple languages.
• Demonstrated experience with structured assessment and rubric-based evaluation; teaching specialization in writing, speaking, or another area is flexible.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to apply scoring standards consistently and objectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage responsibilities effectively, and remain self-sufficient in a remote contractor environment.
• Collaborative approach and willingness to communicate regularly with other reviewers and internal stakeholders.
• Familiarity with the 2026 TOEFL updates and current exam format is an advantage.
• Experience evaluating Academic Discussion, Write an Email, or Virtual Interview responses is desirable.
• Experience working with adult learners in a university or community college environment is a plus.
