This fully remote role focuses on evaluating complex high-value and luxury residential risks and making sound, well-reasoned underwriting decisions. You will assess applications, inspections, valuation data, and property characteristics to determine eligibility, coverage terms, and appropriate policy actions. The role requires particular attention to construction quality, replacement costs, and catastrophe exposures such as wind, wildfire, and flood. You will work closely with agents to explain underwriting requirements, gather information, and support complex or time-sensitive placements. You will also contribute specialized expertise to underwriting initiatives and help strengthen high-value homeowner guidelines. This is an opportunity to apply deep high-value underwriting knowledge within a collaborative, technology-driven insurance environment.
- Evaluate high-value and luxury homeowners risks using submission information, inspection reports, aerial imagery, valuation data, and other relevant risk indicators.
- Assess construction quality, roof condition, and exposure to wind, wildfire, flood, and other relevant catastrophe risks when determining appropriate underwriting actions.
- Review replacement cost estimates and insurance-to-value calculations for high-value dwellings, identifying situations involving custom construction, premium finishes, or unique architectural features that require additional analysis.
- Evaluate property protection and loss-mitigation measures, including central station alarms, water leak detection and automatic shutoff systems, backup generators, and wind or wildfire mitigation features.
- Recommend or require appropriate risk mitigation measures based on property characteristics and applicable underwriting guidelines.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with agents by clearly communicating eligibility, coverage terms, underwriting requirements, and decisions for new and renewal policies.
- Communicate regularly with agents by phone and email to gather essential information, support risk assessment, answer questions, and manage complex or time-sensitive placements.
- Exercise independent judgment when evaluating large-limit risks and refer exposures when they fall outside established guidelines or require additional review.
- Collaborate with internal underwriting teams on projects, guideline development, process improvements, and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute specialized high-value homeowner expertise to help strengthen underwriting practices and support team development.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively in a metrics-driven environment while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, and timely follow-up.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of underwriting experience focused on high-value or high-net-worth homeowners risks is required.
- Experience in the Excess & Surplus (E&S) market is a plus.
- Strong understanding of the characteristics that distinguish high-value homes from standard homeowners risks, including construction, valuation, property features, catastrophe exposure, and service expectations.
- Working knowledge of replacement cost estimation tools such as 360Value or e2Value.
- Knowledge of catastrophe exposures, particularly wind, wildfire, and flood.
- Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate complex and large-limit risks and make clear, well-reasoned underwriting decisions.
- Strong judgment and the ability to recognize when a risk should be referred for additional review.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of effectively managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate underwriting decisions and requirements clearly to agents and internal stakeholders.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills, including timely and professional follow-up.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Producer license preferred but not required.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, AINS, or CPIA are a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with video and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and Slack.
- Reliable high-speed internet connectivity and a designated quiet workspace suitable for remote work.
- Must be able to work remotely from one of the eligible U.S. states: Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, or Wisconsin.
- Willingness to travel periodically for day-to-day work, team meetings, and training.
