This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Network Engineer-Network Protocols & Devices based in United States.

This is a senior networking opportunity for an experienced engineer who combines deep production network expertise with a strong interest in software engineering. You will serve as the network and device subject-matter expert within an Agile/Scrum engineering team supporting a global, AWS-based authentication platform. The role spans multi-vendor infrastructure, network authentication, automation, troubleshooting, and the progressive development of software services that interact with network environments. You will work across networking, cloud infrastructure, security, product, and software engineering to build scalable capabilities used across large deployments. As you grow into the role, you will move beyond scripting into designing and developing production software services. This fully remote position also includes occasional travel for team meetings or company offsites.

• Configure, operate, manage, and troubleshoot large multi-vendor fleets of gateways, routers, switches, and access points, including MikroTik RouterOS, Meraki, Nomadix, Ruckus, and Aruba.
• Design, operate, and troubleshoot network authentication workflows involving RADIUS, AAA, 802.1X, EAP methods, certificate-based authentication, captive portals, and MAC-based authentication.
• Develop Python, Bash, RouterOS, and vendor API-based automation to streamline provisioning, configuration management, authentication, and network device lifecycle management.
• Build diagnostic tooling and lead root-cause analysis of complex network and authentication issues using packet captures, device logs, and platform telemetry.
• Serve as the subject-matter expert for network protocols and devices, translating network behavior and vendor capabilities into clear requirements for software services and reviewing technical designs.
• Progressively transition into software engineering responsibilities, designing, implementing, and maintaining services that interact with or control network infrastructure.
• Contribute to RESTful APIs and security-hardened containerized services running on modern Linux and AWS infrastructure.
• Collaborate with software engineering, product management, UX, and other technical teams to turn user stories into scalable, performant capabilities and applications.
• Partner across functions to resolve architectural, network-design, and code-design challenges.
• Champion scalable network, service-design, software, and engineering best practices and contribute to long-term technical decisions.
• Work within an Agile development environment using two-week sprints.
• Identify and incorporate security requirements across network infrastructure and the software development lifecycle, participating in security reviews and technical discovery as needed.
• Document network standards, runbooks, and troubleshooting procedures while mentoring teammates and contributing to knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and support additional engineering priorities as needed.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, operating, and troubleshooting production IP networks.
• Strong command of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, VLANs, NAT, firewalling, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, and QoS, with the ability to diagnose issues across Layers 2–7.
• Deep understanding of network authentication, including RADIUS, AAA workflows, 802.1X, EAP methods, and certificate-based authentication, with demonstrated production experience.
• Hands-on experience with routers, switches, gateways, and access points from multiple vendors, including technologies such as MikroTik, Meraki, Nomadix, Ruckus, and Aruba.
• Experience managing large fleets of network devices across multi-site deployments, including centralized configuration management, monitoring, firmware management, and device lifecycle processes.
• Programming and scripting experience applied to network operations, including provisioning and configuration automation and troubleshooting tools using technologies such as Python, Bash, RouterOS scripting, and vendor REST APIs.
• Strong Linux knowledge and comfort working in CLI-driven environments.
• Demonstrated interest and aptitude for transitioning from network automation into software engineering, including a willingness to develop skills in version control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and cloud services.
• Strong motivation to contribute to the scalability of cloud-based services and participate meaningfully in developing new products and capabilities.
• Experience with large-scale Wi-Fi/WLAN deployments in hospitality, multi-family, campus, or other high-density environments is strongly preferred, including familiarity with cloud-managed or controller-based access points and RF fundamentals.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• Relevant networking certifications such as MikroTik MTCNA/MTCRE, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CWNA, or equivalent vendor certifications are preferred.
• Professional software engineering experience beyond scripting is a plus, particularly involving systems that interact with or control network infrastructure.
• Experience with RESTful API design, Git, CI/CD, AWS Serverless, CloudFormation, security-hardened containerized services, Python, C#/.NET, or SQL is advantageous.
• Must be based in the United States and legally authorized to work for any U.S. employer; visa sponsorship is not available.
