Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Technician X-Ray is responsible for the proper operation, calibration, reliability, and maintenance of the on-stream X-ray analyzer (OSA) at the mill. The position also performs mill shift sample collection, preparation, and submission for laboratory assay analysis.
The role supports reliable process monitoring and metallurgical operations by maintaining analyzer systems and sample delivery equipment, responding to equipment or process deviations, and completing assigned sampling and metallurgical testing activities. The position works closely with Mill, Maintenance, Laboratory, and Metallurgy personnel.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Safety & Compliance: Work in compliance with Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety requirements, procedures, and standards.
• Standard Operating Procedures: Follow applicable Pinto Valley Mine standard operating procedures and ensure assigned work is performed safely and correctly.
• OSA Operation & Calibration: Operate and calibrate the on-stream X-ray analyzer accurately and reliably to support process monitoring and maximize equipment availability.
• Analyzer Maintenance: Maintain the OSA and associated sample delivery systems, including multiplexers, sampling pots, and connected process streams.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and respond to analyzer, sample delivery, and process-stream issues. Prioritize work to quickly address deviations that could affect analyzer reliability or process monitoring.
• Sampling: Collect and prepare mill shift samples and OSA calibration samples for laboratory assay analysis.
• Process Measurements: Safely perform assigned process measurements, including percent solids using a Marcy Scale, field reagent readings using graduated cylinders and stopwatches, pressure gauge readings, and similar metallurgical measurements.
• Inventory Control: Maintain accurate records of OSA spare parts, consumables, and required safety supplies. Report inventory requirements to the Metallurgist.
• Communication & Documentation: Document OSA issues and communicate equipment or process-stream concerns to the appropriate Metallurgy, Mill, and Maintenance personnel.
• Metallurgical Support: Perform special sample collection, surveys, field reagent readings, percent solids measurements, and minor metallurgical laboratory work as directed by the Metallurgist.
• Teamwork: Work effectively with Mine, Processing, Crusher, Mill, Maintenance, Laboratory, and other departments as required.
• Safety Culture: Promote safe work practices when working with employees, contractors, equipment, and process systems.
• Accountability: Perform assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with Capstone's values of accountability, execution, results, and responsible work practices.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum one year of experience in mill concentrator operations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Outlook.
• Valid Arizona Driver's License.
• Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English.
• Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred
• Experience with sampling and sample preparation.
• SAP experience.
• Basic programming and networking knowledge.
• Experience working with process instrumentation, analyzers, or metallurgical laboratory equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Work in office, mine, concentrator, and SX/EW areas as required.
• Work in active mill and processing environments around operating equipment and process systems.
• Perform field-based sampling, measurements, equipment inspections, and analyzer maintenance.
• Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by operations.
• Follow applicable site requirements for PPE, safe access, and work around industrial equipment.

All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required.
