Job Description

Description:

The Surgery Scheduling Specialist works with ENT surgeons and staff to coordinate surgery scheduling. This individual also provides information about cases for staff so they can be properly prepared prior to surgery. The Surgery Scheduler utilizes skills to ensure hospital inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory surgeries are scheduled and coordinated accordingly.

Skills:

  • Strong Organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Detail Oriented
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with healthcare providers and patients
  • Ability to manage multiple requests at one time

Job Duties:

  • Schedules patients for hospital inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory surgeries to ensure patients are scheduled in an appropriate manner.
  • Interviews patients either in person or by phone to ensure information is accurate prior to surgery.
  • Completes patient instruction forms and appropriate surgical area forms to ensure patients are provided with follow-up appointments, and pre-op orders.
  • Collaborates with the hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) surgery schedulers to enact efficient utilization of block times.
  • Arranges schedule for best flow with surgeries regarding age, type and assist cases.
  • Requests for insurance information from patients to allow for proper billing procedures.
  • Maintains the physicians’ surgery schedule to ensure physicians are informed of surgery times.
  • Notifies Surgery scheduling clerk to provide priority surgery time.
  • Communicates with patients and families regarding pre-operative and post-operative patient education and ensures that information is received and understood by the patient in a timely manner.
  • Notifies effected staff, services and departments if a case is rescheduled, canceled or added to ensure appropriate people are contacted.
  • Coordinates with Anesthesia and ASC Nursing to assure that the essential resources are available for the surgical procedure.
  • Coordinates with Physician Assistants to accurately schedule surgery assist needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
