Job Description

Job Summary

The Burn Program Director provides leadership, strategic direction, and administrative oversight of the burn program. This role is responsible for the development, growth, and sustainability of the burn center, ensuring compliance with American Burn Association (ABA) verification standards and alignment with organizational strategic priorities. Serves as the primary liaison between hospital executive leadership and the burn medical director, leading multidisciplinary collaboration across the continuum of care and ensuring clinical quality, operational excellence, financial stewardship, and regulatory compliance. Responsible for education, staff (direct reports and clinical oversight for those who provide burn care), inventory, resources, knowledge management, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Minimum Job Requirements

Work Experience

Three years in program leadership (burn, trauma, or critical care. Demonstrated experience in program development, accreditation, and performance improvement. Five years of progressive management clinical and operational experience required.

License/Registration/Certification

Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact RN license required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) certifications required; may be obtained within one year of placement in the position.

Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) certification through the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) required; may be obtained within two years of placement in the position.

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) certification required; may be obtained within one year of placement in the position.

Education and Training

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration preferred.

  2. Ability to lead organizational changes and strategic initiatives that improve patient care, clinical outcomes, and nursing practice.
  3. Knowledge of regulatory, accreditation, and verification standards applicable to burn programs and healthcare operations.
  4. Strong leadership skills with the ability to build high-performing teams and promote collaboration, accountability, and shared goals.
  5. Well-developed verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  6. Proven ability to negotiate, mediate, and build consensus among physicians, leadership, staff, and external stakeholders.
  7. Strong analytical, numerical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  8. Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate strategic plans, operational initiatives, and program growth opportunities.
  9. Knowledge of performance improvement, quality management, patient safety, and outcome measurement methodologies.
  10. Ability to effectively manage budgets, financial resources, capital planning, and operational performance.
  11. Demonstrated teaching, coaching, mentoring, presentation, and educational program development skills.
  12. Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, coordinate care across the continuum, and facilitate effective patient progression and discharge planning.
  13. Ability to plan and successfully execute projects and change initiatives of significant scope and complexity.
  14. Ability to cultivate and maintain productive relationships with community agencies, referral sources, professional organizations, and healthcare partners.
  15. Ability to serve as a clinical expert and role model while fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, customer service, and continuous improvement.
