Job Description
The Mechanical Services Support Technician performs a variety of skilled and general mechanical, maintenance, fabrication, installation, and repair work to support Lagoon’s Mechanical Services Department. This position assists with new ride and attraction projects, automotive and fleet maintenance, machine shop operations, industrial painting, fencing, generators, equipment installation, and other mechanical projects throughout Lagoon. The Mechanical Services Support Technician works safely and efficiently, supports other skilled trades and departments as needed, and performs all work in accordance with manufacturer requirements, industry best practices, and Lagoon’s policies and procedures while helping maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for guests and team members.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Perform general mechanical, maintenance, repair, fabrication, installation, and project support work throughout Lagoon.
- Assist Mechanical Services team members with the installation, assembly, modification, maintenance, and repair of rides, attractions, equipment, structures, and other park systems.
- Assist with new ride and attraction installation projects, including equipment assembly, material handling, installation, alignment, and other assigned project work.
- Support automotive and fleet maintenance operations by assisting with inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, servicing, cleaning, and movement of Lagoon vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with machine shop operations, including basic fabrication, drilling, cutting, grinding, measuring, fitting, assembly, and other assigned work.
- Support industrial paint shop operations, including sandblasting and other surface preparation, cleaning, masking, material handling, painting support, and cleanup while following required safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of fencing, gates, barriers, handrails, and related park infrastructure.
- Assist with the inspection, maintenance, servicing, setup, and operation of portable and standby generators and related equipment.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, vehicles, lifts, forklifts, and other equipment when trained and authorized.
- Assist with crane and rigging operations as assigned and only when properly trained, qualified, and authorized.
- Follow established procedures for lockout/tagout, fall protection, personal protective equipment, machine guarding, lifting, rigging, and other applicable safety practices.
- Inspect tools and equipment before use and immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, hazards, or other safety concerns to management.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, shops, vehicles, equipment, and project locations.
- Safely handle, transport, store, and use tools, materials, parts, fuels, paints, chemicals, and other supplies in accordance with established procedures.
- Assist with emergency repairs, equipment failures, and other operational needs that may affect park operations or the guest experience.
- Read and follow work orders, instructions, equipment manuals, drawings, diagrams, and other technical information appropriate to assigned work.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and other Lagoon departments to coordinate work and safely complete assigned projects.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct work in a manner that minimizes disruption to guests and park operations.
- Provide friendly and helpful service when interacting with Lagoon guests and team members.
- Participate in required safety meetings, training programs, inspections, and department meetings.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned to support Mechanical Services and Lagoon operations.
Required Qualifications/Abilities
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in mechanical maintenance, automotive repair, fabrication, construction, industrial maintenance, equipment operation, or a related field is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, mechanical equipment, and safe work practices.
- Ability to learn and safely perform a variety of mechanical and maintenance tasks under the direction of experienced team members.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, safety procedures, equipment manuals, and work orders.
- Ability to use basic measuring tools and perform basic math related to assigned work.
- Ability to identify unsafe conditions and take appropriate action, including stopping work and notifying a supervisor when necessary.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
- Ability to communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, guests, and other Lagoon team members.
- Must possess or be able to obtain required Lagoon equipment certifications and training for assigned duties.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet Lagoon’s requirements for operating Company vehicles when driving is required.
- Must be dependable and able to report to work on time and ready to perform assigned duties.
- Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, holidays, early mornings, and overtime as required by Lagoon’s operating schedule, maintenance needs, projects, and emergencies.
Working Conditions
- This position requires working in an environment that includes exposure to high noise levels, bright/flashing light or darkened areas, fog or haze, large crowds and other factors typical to an amusement park setting.
- This position will perform essential job duties outdoors and be exposed to environmental elements including, but not limited to, extreme heat or cold, wind, dust, noise, rain, snow, and direct sunlight.
- This position may require working at heights, around moving mechanical equipment, in confined spaces, and in elevated work platforms.
- This position may require responding to operational issues and emergencies during park operating and non-operating hours.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described below must be met to successfully perform the essential job responsibilities.
- Must be able to use fingers, hands, arms, and legs to reach, operate equipment, climb stairs, evacuate guests from lifts, perform routine safety checks, and use hands to handle or feel.
- Able to sit, stand, walk (at a specified pace), crouch, crawl, kneel, reach above the head or stoop for the duration of a shift up to eight (8) hours
- Able to regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and up to one hundred (100) pounds assisted
- Able to move equipment which would include pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting
- Able to walk quickly to and from job locations up to one (1) mile distance.
- Must have sufficient hearing and visual acuity to observe equipment, Lagoon guests, etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
