Position Title: First Cook

Department: Food and Beverage (F&B)

Location: Big Hill Lodge

Reports To: Head Cook

Schedule: Casual - no guaranteed hours, fills in for vacation and illness coverage. Shifts are Sunday through Saturday 6:30 AM - 3 PM, or 9:30 AM - 6 PM

Position Summary:

The First Cook plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality meals to our residents. This position involves working closely with the kitchen team to prepare nutritious meals that meet our senior residents' dietary requirements and preferences. The First Cook must adhere to food safety and sanitation standards while demonstrating culinary creativity and excellent cooking skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Meal Preparation
    • Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus, ensuring they are nutritious, flavorful, and visually appealing. Ensure timely and efficient service during meal times.
  1. Menu Planning
    • Assist in developing weekly or monthly menus that meet the dietary needs and preferences of seniors.
  1. Food Safety
    • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment at all times, following food safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures.
  1. Supervision
    • When the head cook is absent, provide guidance and support to kitchen staff, including cooks, kitchen helpers, and volunteers, ensuring smooth operation of the kitchen.
  1. Communication
    • Maintain open and effective communication with F&B staff, management, and other departments to ensure seamless meal service coordination.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Culinary degree or equivalent certification preferred but not required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a commercial kitchen, preferably in a senior living or healthcare setting.
