In this role, you'll support the operation of our web presses while continuing to develop your technical expertise. If your goal is to become a First Press Operator, we'll invest in your success by providing the training, coaching, and real-world experience to help you advance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the First Press Operator in setting up and operating web offset printing press equipment.
- Support press make-readies, changeovers, and job transitions to ensure efficient production flow.
- Monitor press operation during production runs and report any quality or mechanical issues.
- Perform routine press adjustments as directed by the First Press Operator.
- Inspect printed materials for quality defects such as color variation, registration issues, streaking, or other inconsistencies.
- Maintain proper ink, paper, and supply levels during production.
- Assist in troubleshooting minor press issues and escalating more complex problems when needed.
- Ensure proper housekeeping of press area, including cleaning ink systems, rollers, and work surfaces.
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout policies.
- Assist with preventive maintenance tasks and basic press upkeep.
- Accurately complete production documentation and quality checks as required.
- Communicate effectively with First Press Operator, Press Assistants, Maintenance, and Supervisors.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to efficiency, waste reduction, and quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Previous web press operation experience required
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn press operations and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work closely as part of a press team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Basic understanding of print quality standards and color consistency.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and various shifts as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 25lbs frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally
- Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling and bending
