As an Engineering Helper on the 8 Spruce team, you'll assist with the upkeep of our community and be responsible for assessing maintenance related issues.

What you will do:
  • Repair and maintain buildings, grounds, fixtures, machinery and mechanical equipment, in building common areas and tenant areas. May perform general and advanced maintenance duties.
  • Respond to resident inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner, directing customers to other persons as necessary.
  • Assist in the development of the preventative and scheduled maintenance programs.
  • Complete preventative and scheduled maintenance work orders.
  • Update equipment and building information for preventative and maintenance program.
  • Assist in setup of materials for promotions and special events.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls and may be required to report back to the property after hours if needed.
  • Perform plumbing duties including inspecting, installing, repairing and replacing pipes, fittings and plumbing fixtures.
  • Perform electrical duties include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing lighting, wiring and power circuits.
  • Perform carpentry duties including construction and repair of walls and partitions, drywall installation and repair, shelving and counter installation, repair of doors and associated door hardware (locksets and closers), etc.
  • Perform painting duties including drywall and plaster repair, painting, filling holes and cracks, wallpaper repair, installation and replacement, etc.
  • Constantly works alone.
  • Make frequent decisions on how to run building equipment for his shift and projects for the next few hours.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties such as locksmith duties and ceiling tile and grid repair.
What you should have:
  • Entry Level Position
  • 1+ years of experience within HVAC/Plumbing/Electrical Industry.
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness S12, S13, S14, A35, P98, F01, F60, G60 Mandatory
  • Blueprint reading experience
  • Attend and participate in Local 94 Training Program
  • A strong desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others
  • A belief that doing the right thing is the only option, no matter how difficult it might be
  • A willingness to respond to emergency situations no matter the time of day
  • A valid Driver's License that must be enrolled in the New York State License Event Notification Service (LENS) program.
  • Ability to use tablet-based work order program to complete assigned work orders
  • Basic – Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Outlook + ability to adapt to new technologies
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and able to multitask
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Overtime is available and required in emergency situations
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Able to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs.).

Rate per Hour: $28.89
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience & location.
