About This Position
We are on the search for a Repossession & Collections Specialist to join our Community Banking Team! This role is responsible for managing delinquent loan accounts with a focus on consumer and collateralized loans, including auto and equipment loans. This role is responsible for the repossession process, supports foreclosure activities on real-estate secured loans, and works to minimize losses through effective collections and recovery strategies. The position ensures full compliance with applicable regulations and internal Bank policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Collections & Delinquency Management:
- Manage assigned portfolio of delinquent consumer, auto, and/or small business loans
- Contact customers to resolve past-due balances through phone, email, written communication and face-to-face interaction
- Negotiate repayment plans, extensions, and settlements with guidance from executive management
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all borrower interactions
Repossession Management:
- Initiate and manage repossession of collateral (ie- vehicles, equipment) in accordance with bank policy this includes on-site inspections and in-house repossessions
- Coordinate with repossession agents and third-party vendors- when necessary
- Ensure proper notices are sent timely to the customer
- Track repossession status, condition of collateral, and recovery timelines
- Coordinate post-repossession processes, including:
- Transport and storage
- Valuation and remarketing/sale of collateral
- Deficiency balance calculations
Foreclosure Support:
- Assist with foreclosure processing for real estate-secured loans
- Coordinate with attorneys, trustees, and title companies with guidance from executive management
- Track foreclosure timelines, filings, and required notices
- Ensure documentation is complete and compliant with legal requirements
- Support loss mitigation efforts such as modifications, short sales, or other legal proceedings
Loss Mitigation & Recover
- Evaluate borrower financial situations to recommend appropriate resolution strategies
- Work with internal credit/lending teams on charge-off decisions and recovery efforts
- Monitor and pursue deficiency balances following repossession or foreclosure
- Recommend accounts for legal action when appropriate
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations, including:
- Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)
- Uniform Commercial Code Article 9 (UCC – Secured Transactions)
- Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA)
- Follow bank policies, audit standards, and regulatory guidance
- Support internal audits and regulatory examinations
Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain detailed account notes, collateral status, and recovery efforts
- Prepare reports on delinquency, repossession activity, recoveries and losses
- Escalate high-risk or complex accounts to management
Compliance & Risk
- Ensure all repossession, collections and foreclosures follow banking regulations
- Protect the bank from unnecessary risk by adhering to bank procedures and confidentiality guidelines
- Adhere to internal controls, operational procedures, and risk management policies, including security protocols for robbery, fraud, opening/closing processes, cash controls, and teller procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all bank policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal banking regulations.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:Required Experience, Education and Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Five years (minimum) of collections, repossessions and foreclosure experience
- Highly collaborative team player with the ability to build trust
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to engage with customers and employees
- Integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to ethical banking
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
