About the role
Reporting to the Company’s General Manager AAM Operations (Phase 2), an exciting opportunity exists for an Operations Manager to join the Syrah team based in Vidalia, Louisiana. This role is responsible for the Operations including Control Room, Material Handlers, Maintenance, Planning and Reliability at site. The role is accountable for ~ 60% of the workforce at Vidalia. The role relationships with other management units are differentiated as per the organizational function below:
LEADERSHIP:

- Ensure operational compliance with all Quality, Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Community (HSSEC) standards and drive a strong safety culture. Investigate all safety and environmental incidents immediately and address root causes.
- Practice leader for Lean Principles, Daily Management, Problem Solving and 5S.
- Assist in leading and developing an effective, high-performance organizational culture within the VAM team.
- Accountable for adhering to the shift schedule and facilitates the integration of work in all sections (including maintenance and production) into a cohesive and efficient schedule. The role motivates multi-disciplinary teams to maximize efficiency of planned work.
- Lead and develop a team with the required Operational and Maintenance competencies through effective personnel management and human resources planning, together with appropriate training and personal development programs.
- Mentor, coach, challenge and hold people accountable for getting tasks completed to schedule.
- Ensure that staff are trained and assessed as competent to carry out their work. The competency of personnel is to be verified by documentation prior to carrying out any tasks.
- Conduct formal performance reviews adhering to review timelines with organizational performance.
- Establish and improve systems of work through control system modifications, work procedures and training material to improve effectiveness and efficiency of operations and control across the entire site.
- Ensure understanding of Change Control documentation and requirements for investigations and customer reports, collaborating closely with Quality and Technical Managers to align with the Quality Plan.
- Maintain compliance with Control Plan limits and other customer specifications through effective coordination with Quality and Technical Managers.
OPERATIONS:
- Ensure the milling, purification, drying, coating, and carbonization equipment is operated safely and within the site safety standards and regulatory requirements to meet the business plan.
- Ensure equipment is safe for Maintenance to perform planned and scheduled tasks.
- Process parameters within control are met leading to 100% conformance to quality standard.
- Lead the Control Room function for in control and capable operations across all shifts.
- Lead Material Handlers by coordinating with Procurement and Logistics team to ensure efficient inventory management.
MAINTENANCE:
- To lead improvement activities related to equipment safety, performance and maintenance and determine and specify the standards required for operating equipment to achieve acceptability and cycle times.
- Provide specialist mechanical and electrical support for maintenance and operations staff as well as provide the interface to Project engineering.
- Leads reliability to monitor assigned area and reports key performance parameters and determines necessary corrective action to correct deviation from established parameters. The following trends and activities are reported on:
- Critical asset availability
- Primary Maintenance (PM), Corrective Maintenance, Preventive/Predictive Maintenance
- Minimize % MTBF
- Completion of assigned RCFA/Failure Analysis action items in assigned areas
- Preventative Maintenance routine updates and review in assigned area
- Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) – Target 80%
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Strong leadership skills, demonstrating commitment to direct reports, peers, and Syrah values.
- 15+ years of relevant industry experience at a senior leadership level, preferably within manufacturing, mining, or resources companies.
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
- Ability to develop and maintain credible relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen and demonstrated experience delivering business improvement and cost reduction programs.
- Successful track record in managing operational performance withing the Chemical Processing, Mining and/or Manufacturing industries.
