About This Position

Job Title: Wound Care Technician I (PCT)

Department/Location: Wound Care/ Chicago, IL

Shifts: various shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays

Full-time (80 hours per pay period) + benefit eligible

FTE: 1.0

Compensation: Pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to job-specific requirements, individual experience, internal pay equity, and organizational needs/budget considerations, all in alignment with our RML's compensation philosophy. Additionally, you may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program based on both individual and organizational performance.

Under the direction of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse (WOCN) and according to established policies and procedures, provides basic nursing care to patients, and clinical and clerical support to the WOCNs. Assists WOCNs with complex patient care up to the validated level of training. May function as a staff PCT when requested to do so, based upon operational need. Maintains competence in the PCT role as described in the PCT job description. Provides age and developmentally appropriate care to the adult and geriatric patient and their family.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Promotes a positive patient and customer experience by using the Language of Caring in all interactions with patients, families, and staff.

Patient Care Technician (PCT) Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse within the scope of training and competency.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living including bathing, turning, toileting, ambulating, feeding, and positioning.
  • Obtains and records vital signs and patient data including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, intake/output, and weights.
  • Performs basic bedside tests such as blood glucose monitoring and stool occult blood testing.
  • Observes and reports patient condition, symptoms, and changes to the nurse or respiratory therapist.
  • Responds to call lights and assists patients throughout the unit as needed.
  • Follows infection control practices including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and isolation precautions.
  • Supports respiratory care by addressing disconnected equipment and notifying appropriate staff.
  • Wound Care Technician Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical and clerical support to Wound Care Clinicians.
  • Maintains the wound care census and organizes wound care documentation and supplies.
  • Assists with patient preparation, positioning, dressing removal, and wound cleaning for treatments.
  • Prepares and restocks wound care supplies and ensures equipment is cleaned between patients.
  • Uploads wound images and documents care in the medical record system.
  • Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation in Meditech.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Communicates respectfully with patients, families, and staff.
  • Assists with patient transport, lifts, and equipment cleaning.
  • Participates in staff meetings, education programs, and required annual training.
  • Promotes a safe work environment by following safety protocols and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of PCT or Nursing Assistant training or equivalent clinical training/experience.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Ability to lift, transport patients, and work in a clinical patient care environment.
  • Current CPR
