Dental Assistant at RightDirection Technology Solutions – PUERTO RICO, San Luis

RDTS is looking for a Dental Assistant to provide services to the inmate population at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) located in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm.

All duties shall be performed in accordance with standard and methods generally accepted within the field of Dental Assistant Service and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulation. The contractor must have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. The contractor(s) shall be responsible for but not limited:

• The contractor will abide by MDC Guaynabo's infection control policies. The MDC Dental Assistant shall be required to maintain a system of dental records on inmates in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 52.224-1, Privacy Act Notification, and 52.224.2, Privacy Act. All records maintained by the contractor under this contract will remain the property of the Metropolitan Detention Center.
• The contractor shall be responsible but is not limited to Service to include chair-side assistance to the dentist in restorative, endodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics, routine examination, and clerical duties. Maintain the dry goods, dental instruments, materials and inventories, including restocking and sterilization of instruments. The contractor has knowledge of the current Occupational Safety Hazard Administration (OSHA) guidelines and infection control techniques affecting the practice of dentistry. The Contractor will process all biomedical hazardous waste including special handling of needles, syringes, and instruments. The contractor will control hazardous materials inventories.
• Services will be unsupervised, but will be monitored by an assigned contract monitor in accordance with Bureau of Prisons policy. Additionally, provides and assists the dentist in providing prevention services. The contractor will clean, polish and/or oil the equipment and supplies according to manufacturer’s or biomedical recommendations. The contractor will clean and sterilize instruments, using autoclave techniques and prepare sterile tray and packs, they will also maintain a number of recurring report, including those concerning material and equipment. They will properly store and maintain adequate supplies in the dental clinic. The contractor will greet, receive, and prepare the patient for treatment.
• The contractor will lay out instrument and material needed for treatment, obtain a current patient health history, record cursory examination of patient's oral cavity; take radiograph such as bite wings, periapical, and panoramic film. They will also complete processing of exposed radiograph and mark them with identifying information, must use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which consists but not limited to the use of lead aprons and shield as protection against radiation. The contractor will provide oral and written hygiene instructions. The contractor will assist the dentist in providing the oral health educational program to the inmates. The contractor will be responsible for understanding and operating the dental equipment, instruments and materials currently utilized at MDC Guaynabo Dental Clinic.

• Must have graduated from an accredited school or program;
• Be licensed as a Dental Assistant in the U.S. or in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico;
• Have appropriate insurance coverage certificate;
• Have a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
