The Technology team is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in the Systems Development group. This role focuses on the development of advanced power system technologies and solid-state protection solutions for next-generation power system products. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in power electronics, particularly high-voltage DC systems, and is motivated to innovate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The design engineer is expected to concept and develop electrical components and system-level technologies for new power products and work with their team to identify opportunities to improve existing products. The candidate must be comfortable working closely with cross-functional team members including mechanical engineers, manufacturing, marketing, sourcing, lab technicians, and others. Creative thinking and a hands-on approach to solving complex technical problems are highly valued.

The electrical design engineer in the systems group designs, develops, analyzes, and documents product designs which meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements of the customer or market. The candidate shall be an effective communicator of technical information both verbally and through written reports and presentations.

This role will report to the R&D Systems Manager and will be on-site at our Plano, TX HQ.

Essential Responsibilities

In this role, you will work as a Design Engineer in the Systems Development group with the following responsibilities:

  • Develop new products, including architecture definition, circuit concepts, schematics, and validation through lab testing and characterization.
  • Design and implement high-voltage DC (HVDC) circuits (e.g., 400V, 800V DC) including solid-state switching and protection solutions such as solid-state circuit breakers (SCCB), eFuses, and fault protection devices that can be implemented as part of a systems distribution architecture.
  • Select and apply discrete power components including MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC, and GaN devices, optimizing for efficiency, reliability, and cost.
  • Develop and implement ground fault detection methods and protection schemes, including sensing, detection algorithms, and system-level response working with firmware and other system team members.
  • Design analog and digital circuitry for high-accuracy measurement of key system parameters such as voltage, current, and temperature, including signal conditioning, sensing topology selection, and ADC interface considerations.
  • Electro-thermal co-design or collaborating heavily with mechanical engineers on advanced cooling strategies (e.g., liquid cooling, high-performance heatsinks).
  • Assure all designs meet requirements including performance, time-to-market, cost targets, and regulatory compliance.
  • Define parts, modules, and assemblies including component selection, schematics, and PCB layouts supporting backplanes, control boards, and other system electronics.
  • Create schematics using Allegro Concept and review/validate PCB layouts for signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal considerations.
  • Mitigate EMC/EMI issues through proper design practices, filter design, and system-level layout reviews including busbars and cable routing.
  • Assist in the review of customer and market requirements (RFQs) and develop system-level and custom design solutions leveraging existing platforms.
  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams (manufacturing, sourcing, global engineering, systems engineering) to develop and support production-ready designs.
  • Participate in the full product lifecycle, including design, validation, release to manufacturing, and sustaining activities.
  • Work with team to create manufacturing test requirements (MTR) and support production bring-up and issue resolution.
  • Document system schematics, wiring diagrams, and customer-facing drawing packages.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelors or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Power electronics, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in power electronics or power system design
  • Proven experience taking products from concept through development and into production

Desired Characteristics

Power Electronics & Architecture Expertise:

  • Deep understanding of datacenter, AI, and Open Compute Project (OCP) power architectures (54V, $\pm400 ext{V}$, and $800 ext{V}$ DC systems).
  • Hands-on design experience with discrete wide-bandgap (WBG) devices (SiC, GaN) and traditional silicon (MOSFETs, IGBTs) in high-efficiency switching topologies.
  • Proven experience designing solid-state protection systems (eFuses, SCCBs) and ground fault detection schemes in DC systems.

Circuit Design & Tooling:

  • High-level proficiency with schematic capture and layout review tools (ideally Cadence Allegro / Concept HDL).
  • Strong background in high-accuracy analog/mixed-signal measurement circuits (voltage, current, and temperature sensing) including error budgeting and calibration.
  • Solid grasp of signal integrity, noise mitigation, and power distribution network (PDN) design.

Compliance & Execution:

  • Direct experience debugging and solving tough EMC/EMI challenges at the system and component level.
  • Familiarity with international electrical safety standards and regulatory compliance requirements for high-power industrial infrastructure.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills, with a track record of driving designs through validation and successful manufacturing release.
