Structural Steel Quality Control Manager Lead Precision Inspection and QC Enforcement
Job Overview:
Company: Zak Welding & Custom Work, LLC.
Salary/Pay Rate: $28 - $35+ per hour (Depending on Experience).
Location: Detroit, MI.
Job/Employment Type: Full Time.
Schedule: 7:00 AM 5:00 PM, Weekdays (Saturdays as needed).
Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: AWS Certification, OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
The Opportunity: You will serve as the final authority on quality, ensuring every piece of structural steel leaving our facility meets elite industry standards and rigorous project specs. This leadership role empowers you to develop and enforce the QC programs that protect our reputation for craftsmanship in commercial and federal sectors.
How You Will Make an Impact:
Develop and execute comprehensive Inspection & Test Plans (ITP) to standardize quality across all custom fabrication projects.
Audit Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) to ensure total technical compliance.
Lead rigorous weld inspections and material traceability protocols to eliminate rework and jobsite complications.
Direct corrective action plans when non-conforming work is identified, coordinating closely with shop supervisors to resolve issues.
Verify complex dimensions and tolerances against structural and shop drawings using precision measurement tools.
Document and report all inspection findings, maintaining the high-level transparency required for industrial and government contracts.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, inspection, or erection.
Advanced proficiency in reading and interpreting complex structural and shop drawings.
Deep technical knowledge of shop processes including precision cutting, fitting, welding, and industrial coatings.
Demonstrated experience developing and enforcing formal Quality Control programs and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential.
Extensive familiarity with AISC standards and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) methodologies.
Proven track record of managing quality for large-scale industrial or federal infrastructure projects.
