Job Description

Senior Director, AI Engineering

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Director, AI Engineering in Canada.

This is a senior technical leadership role shaping the next generation of AI-driven product experiences at scale. You will define and execute the organization’s AI and data science strategy, driving the evolution from a traditional SaaS platform to an AI-first product ecosystem. Acting as a key bridge between product, engineering, and data science, you will translate complex product ambitions into scalable machine learning and LLM-powered systems. The role combines deep technical authority with strategic leadership, requiring both hands-on understanding of AI systems and the ability to guide large, high-performing teams. You will oversee the full lifecycle of AI/ML models, from experimentation through deployment and continuous improvement in production. In a fast-evolving environment, you will also champion innovation in generative AI, NLP, and MLOps practices. Your impact will directly influence how millions of users collect, interpret, and act on data.

Accountabilities:
  • Define and lead the long-term AI and data science strategy, ensuring alignment with product vision and company objectives.
  • Translate complex product requirements into scalable machine learning and AI-driven solutions, including NLP, predictive models, and generative AI capabilities.
  • Drive the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) and advanced NLP techniques into core product features such as text analytics, sentiment analysis, and content generation.
  • Own and evolve the end-to-end ML lifecycle, including experimentation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous optimization in production environments.
  • Establish technical standards for model development, MLOps/LLMOps practices, and scalable AI infrastructure.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing teams of data scientists and machine learning engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Partner closely with product and engineering leadership to embed AI capabilities into the platform and accelerate the shift toward an AI-first product experience.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or AI engineering, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles managing and scaling teams.
  • Proven experience building and deploying AI/ML platforms and production-grade machine learning systems in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP).
  • Strong expertise in machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, experimentation design (A/B testing), and production system design.
  • Demonstrated experience applying, fine-tuning, and integrating LLMs and NLP techniques into real-world production use cases.
  • Deep understanding of MLOps/LLMOps practices, including tools such as MLflow, AWS SageMaker, or GCP Vertex AI.
  • Strong product thinking with the ability to translate ambiguous business needs into structured, scalable technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to executive and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field is preferred.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary ranging from CAD $224,000 to $336,000 annually, depending on experience and location.
  • Performance-based bonus eligibility as part of the total compensation package.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
  • RRSP matching program to support long-term financial planning.
  • Flexible spending accounts and health savings account options.
  • Generous paid time off, paid holidays, and employee assistance program.
  • Flexible, remote-first work environment with opportunities for in-person collaboration and company events.
  • Strong focus on professional growth, leadership development, and career progression opportunities.
