Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of Parks Foreman, the Parks Technician I-Temporary performs entry level manual tasks during the construction, repair and maintenance of City services and facilities and may operate in assigned districts including the Main Street District and downtown area. Parks Technician I Service as a General labor/ Small Equipment Operator.

Education/Training/Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.

Landscaping Knowledge and Experience is “Preferred”.

Essential Job Functions:

Serves as General Labor/ Small Equipment Operator

Performs a variety of beautification and maintenance work.

Safely operates commercial mowers, tractors, weed-eaters, and power tools.

Ensures the growth and vibrancy of plants, flowers, lawn, and decorative shrubs.

Fertilizes and prunes to remove damaged or dying plant life.

Cleans park restrooms.

Empties trash cans.

Performs other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of basic methods, safe work practices and techniques especially in the appropriate and safe handling and use of toxic chemicals; materials and equipment used in janitorial work.

Ability to operate small equipment and perform manual labor landscaping task.

Skills in the use of hand tools, string trimmers, pruners, chain saws and other power tools.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; pulling, pushing or dragging up to 150 pounds of repair equipment and materials; climbing, crawling, kneeling, squatting, stooping and bending freely when participating in repairs; sitting, standing or walking for extended periods of time; working indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather; and some exposure to mechanical, electrical and explosive hazards dust, using proper safety precautions.
