This role is critical to ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations across two municipal solid waste landfills and one transfer station.

In this position, you won’t be sitting on the sidelines—you’ll be actively involved in both engineering design and field operations. You’ll collaborate closely with site teams, regulatory agencies, and external consultants while balancing technical expertise with real-world problem-solving.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in designing leachate collection and landfill gas systems
  • Coordinate and review work from external engineering consultants
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor capital budgets

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state (PADEP), and local environmental regulations
  • Assist with permit applications, modifications, and renewals
  • Prepare and review technical reports and compliance documentation
  • Support NPDES, air quality, and solid waste permitting

Field Operations Support

  • Conduct routine inspections across landfill and transfer station sites
  • Partner with operations teams on waste placement, cover systems, and stormwater controls
  • Provide construction oversight, including QA/QC and contractor coordination
  • Troubleshoot operational and environmental challenges in real time

Environmental Systems Management

  • Support leachate storage, conveyance, and treatment systems
  • Assist with landfill gas monitoring and system optimization
  • Analyze groundwater, surface water, and gas data to identify trends

Project Management

  • Manage small- to mid-sized capital and compliance projects
  • Develop scopes of work, budgets, and schedules
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders

What You Bring

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • 3–8 years of experience in landfill, solid waste, or environmental engineering (preferred)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred or the ability to obtain

Technical Strengths

  • Knowledge of landfill systems (liners, leachate, gas collection)
  • Familiarity with PADEP regulations and permitting processes
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software
  • Strong understanding of stormwater management and erosion control

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel regularly between facilities
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently in both office and field settings

Work Environment

  • Blend of office and active landfill site work
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions and field environments
  • Walking on uneven terrain and the use of PPE are required
  • Occasional lifting may be necessary

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary with performance-based incentives
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, 401k)
  • Professional development and support for PE licensure
  • A collaborative, hands-on environment with real growth potential

Why This Role Matters
