The Parts Counter Associate is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while supporting the daily operations of the parts department. This role assists customers and service technicians by identifying, sourcing, and selling the correct parts and accessories efficiently and accurately. Success in this position requires strong product knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and customer-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Parts Sales & Operations
- Assist customers in identifying and purchasing parts and accessories that meet their needs
- Provide parts support to service technicians to ensure efficient workflow
- Accurately process all sales transactions, including cash, credit, and check payments
- Handle core returns, warranties, and merchandise returns in accordance with dealership procedures
- Maintain accurate records of all transactions and inventory movement
- Verify incoming shipments and receiving documentation
- Follow up on parts shortages and communicate with the Parts Manager to expedite orders
- Support merchandising efforts to ensure parts are properly displayed and stocked
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe parts department
- Utilize dealership tools and systems safely and effectively
- Attend training to stay current on products, systems, and procedures
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Customer Service
- Greet all customers promptly and professionally
- Build strong customer relationships through honesty, fairness, and responsiveness
- Address customer questions, concerns, and complaints with a solutions-focused approach
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction in every interaction
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn dealership systems
- Attention to detail and accuracy in transactions and inventory handling
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Problem-solving skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Basic automotive knowledge or willingness to learn
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior automotive parts, retail, or customer service experience preferred
- Dealership or parts counter experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
