Role Summary:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for multiple dealerships with the Steve Marshall Group. This role ensures compliance with all applicable employment standards, tax regulations, and company policies, while providing exceptional service and support to managers and employees across various dealership locations.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and experience in managing complex, multi-location payrolls. A strong understanding of payroll systems, reconciliations, and statutory compliance is essential. Candidates holding or pursuing a Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation are highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer end-to-end payroll processing in ADP Workforce Now for multiple dealerships, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable federal and provincial legislation.
- Verify employee hours, commissions, bonuses, overtime, and holiday pay prior to each payroll submission.
- Maintain and update employee records in ADP, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, and benefits deductions.
- Audit payroll data for accuracy, resolving discrepancies before final submission.
- Generate and distribute payroll reports to Controllers, GM’s, and People & Culture as required.
- Prepare and submit source deductions, benefit premiums, WCB remittances, and other statutory payments.
- Manage Record of Employment (ROEs) and year-end reconciliations through ADP.
- Liaise with ADP support and internal teams to troubleshoot payroll issues or implement system improvements.
- Provide responsive and professional payroll support to dealership managers and employees.
- Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy in payroll processes across the group.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure all payroll complies with privacy and employment standards legislation.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Diploma or certificate in Payroll or Accounting, or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of full-cycle payroll experience, preferably within a multi-location organization or automotive dealership group.
- Advanced proficiency with ADP Workforce Now – including payroll, reporting, and time management modules.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including the British Columbia Employment Standards Act, Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance Act, and tax remittance requirements.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills for payroll reconciliation and analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail and organization skills with proven ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Demonstrated professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Preferred: Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (PCM) designation through the National Payroll Institute.
