About This Position
Recruitment Process
The Senior Service Recruitment will consist of a Multiple-Choice Exam and Appraisal Interview. Dates and times are TBD. You must be successful in both the Multiple-Choice Exam and Appraisal Interview in order to be considered for the position.
Basic Function
Under close supervision, performs servicing and cleaning of revenue and non-revenue equipment, including Metro vehicles, buses, rail cars, and non-revenue rail equipment.
Generic
- Cleans interiors and exteriors of Metro vehicles, including sweeping, scrubbing, polishing, cleaning and replacing windows and seat cushions, collecting trash, and removing graffiti
- Uses high temperature pressure equipment to steam clean vehicle, undercarriage and mechanical/non-mechanical components
- Sweeps and mops facility work areas, service stations, and yard/facility
- Operates forklifts, powered carts, and similar equipment to load, unload, and move supplies and equipment
- Performs cleanup of bio-hazards from vehicle interiors in accordance with biohazard cleanup protocols
- Removes gum from floor and surface areas of vehicles
- Connects power source to electric vehicles and removes once fully charged, when required
- Fuels, checks fluids, cleans interior, and hand washes company equipment assigned vehicles
- Responds to bio-hazard and fluid spill cleanups in the field, on the street, or at other locations, as required
- Disposes/recycles solid and/or non-hazardous and hazardous wastes
- Cleans maintenance shops spaces. (i.e. sweeps, mops, empties trash, etc.)
- Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out
- Checks fluid levels and dispenses fuel, lubrication oils, and engine coolant
- Records quantities of fluids dispensed in Metro’s inventory management system
- Removes and replaces farebox vaults from buses returning from services and empties revenue into safe
- Parks vehicles in designated areas of maintenance facility
- Aligns buses with vacuum system and blows out debris from interior of bus with compressed air wand or uses vacuum equipment to remove debris from interior of bus
- Operates vehicles through the fuel station, bus wash rack, and within the yard/facility
- Dispenses fuels such as unleaded fuel, diesel fuel, hydrogen fuel, and/or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) into electric vehicles
- Performs cleanout of blower/vacuum equipment, debris bailor, and trench areas at the fuel station and vehicle wash rack
- Cleans rail vehicles on the main line; removes trash and performs light cleaning activities
- Steam cleans rail components and the entire undercarriage of the trains, including trucks and equipment boxes
- Performs minor to major train cleaning and detailing, as required
- Supports special events by performing additional cleaning of trains, as required
- Cleans yard of debris
- Flags and spots rail vehicles in and out the shop and yard under power
- Applies and removes (lockout/tag out) high voltage power of rail vehicles for cleaning and servicing after receiving proper training
- Blue flags a rail vehicle in the yard, shops, and on the mainline in emergency situations
- Rides trains enroute between terminals within assigned rail segments
- Spots trash/debris while train is in motion and addresses once train stops at destined station
- Moves from car to car, when trains are not in motion, and picks up trash/debris
- Calls in large spills, bio-waste, and excessive trash/debris/vandalism to the Rail Control Center (ROC) via assigned radio for appropriate actions
- Consults with management and identifies the proper tools and methods to work safely and effectively
May be required to perform other related job duties
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education
- High school diploma, Certificate of California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE), GED, or equivalent
- None Required
- Valid California Class C Driver License
- For position/s in Rail Operations Department, incumbent/s must pass Light and Heavy Rail Safety Certification
- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
- Positions in this job classification are considered safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations

- Follow supervisor/lead person's direction and achieve performance standards
- Follow Metro safety rules and policies
- Operate and work with computers and in a computerized workstation
