We perform maintenance and modernization on all classes of major surface vessels, including CVN, CG, and DDG, as well as amphibious ships such as LHD, LHA, LSD, LPD, and auxiliary ships. Our work spans a full range of Combatant, Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, and Habitability systems, supporting the readiness and mission success of the U.S. Fleet.

Position Specifics

The Pipefitter is responsible for proper removal, and/or installation of various piping systems. This includes cutting, grinding, and prepping multiple sizes and material types of pipe. The Pipefitter must have the ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and sketches, and have an understanding of the different joint designs IAW with MIL-STD -22D, and basic knowledge of MIL-STD-777F, and NSTP-278. In addition the Pipefitter must be able to obtain a Silver Braze certification, and have a general knowledge of the hazards associated with opening tanks and voids, including the installation of proper blanks and plugs to obtain Gas Free status. The Pipefitter must also have the ability to accomplish all required testing (hydrostatic,operational, etc.) IAW shipboard procedures.

Plans, prepares, installs, and maintains ship board piping systems.Consults blueprints, work orders, schematics, or instructions; creates working procedure based on specifications.Gathers equipment and materials for the job.Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering; safely removes and properly discards of old coverings according to hazardous waste procedures and in accordance with company procedures.Inspects pipes, testing for pressure and leaks; reports and/or resolves problems.Maintains records, including safety logs and inspection details.Targets piping in shop for re-installation onboard the ship.Ensures daily clean-up of work site at end of each day.Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements

The ability to read and understand basic work specs, drawings, and diagrams.Demonstrated knowledge of ship board piping systems.Understands ship board terminology utilizing MIL-SPEC and NAVSEA references.Demonstrated understanding of basic reading and mathematics is required for fit-up, lay-out, and fabrication of piping systems. Demonstrated ability to identify multiple types of fittings, and what they are used for.Demonstrated ability to identify different piping systems based off of abbreviations commonly used onboard the ship.Demonstrated understanding of TAC numbers used to identify locations throughout the ship.Maintains a silver braze qualification for CuNi (copper-nickel) piping systems onboard ships.Maintains fire-watch qualification.High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Minimum (5) years experience in Shipyard Pipifitting.

Physical RequirementsFrequently moves throughout the shipyard.Work at heights and in confined spaces.Must be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.Must be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 40 pounds.May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams.Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment. May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Our Commitment
