About This Position

Description:

Position Summary:

Provides applicants with assistance in completing Financial Aid (FA) applications and determines eligibility. Packages students, prepares FA files. Follows regulations in disbursement of FA. Processes status changes. Promotes default management and helps students understand repayment responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Complete student files prior to Financial Aid Director’s review to ensure files contain accurate documentation.

• Performs the initial 20 minute estimate process for all prospective students which includes a power point presentation, gathering of information from the prospect to calculate an estimate, the presentation of the cost estimate to the prospect, and review what is required to enroll.

• Access NSLDS to review prior loan/grant information. Print copy for file, (to perform this essential function of the job, employee cannot have defaulted on a student loan in the past).

• Review cost of attendance and tentative financial aid awards with student; this process includes reviewing monthly payment arrangements if applicable. Schedule a follow-up appointment to complete the packaging process.

• Complete all additional paperwork prior to follow-up appointment. Review FA funds awarded, review of non-Title IV payment arrangements, and answer any questions the student may have. Provide the student with copies of all paperwork completed.

• Review FAFSA process with student – answer all questions that arise while the student is completing the FAFSA via “FAFSA on the Web” (http://www.studentaid.gov).

• Complete packaging in CampusNexus for enrolled students which includes scheduling all available financial aid to meet the student’s needs and completing all necessary documentation.

• Generate a Direct Loan application (Master Promissory Note) on the Department of Educations’ website (https://studentaid.gov); ensure that student e-signs promissory; provide copy of promissory note to student and ensure that a copy is kept in the file.

• For dependent students, have parent complete a PLUS credit check form to allow us to run the credit check and have parent apply for a PLUS via Department of Educations’ website (https://studentaid.gov).

• Review all ISIRs for enrollments for accuracy and resolve any issues (verification, c-code).

• If student was selected for verification, all required documents need to be collected, the verification process in CampusNexus must be completed and corrections made to the ISIR if necessary.

• Contact student to complete revised award letter if applicable.

• Final packaging (have a valid ISIR on file, all documentation has been received, package is accurate and complete) must be submitted to Boston Educational Network to be approved.

Job Description: Financial Aid Officer

• Ensure that New Start Report reflects that all new starts have been packaged with federal aid, cash, or alternative funding.

• Schedule all financial aid awards and cash payments for first year student in CampusNexus.

• Monitor PLUS denials and award unsubsidized loans. Revise award letter, notify student, schedule loan in CampusNexus and resubmit file to File Review Team.

• Utilize remaining balance to schedule report and have all new student balances (for their first year) scheduled by week four of current term.

• Review problem students with Financial Aid Director and Campus Director.

• Default Management processing and reports.

• Attend Orientation/Registration sessions for new students.

• Assist in repackaging continuing students for 2nd and 3rd years, as applicable.

• Perform additional duties as requested by Financial Aid Director.

• Ensure 100% student satisfaction; provide timely service during student appointments.

• Provide counseling to students to ensure an understanding of financial aid basics.

• Assist Financial Aid Director in Orientation/Registration sessions.

• Work as a team member in meeting departmental goals.

• Manages confidential information.

• Regular and consistent attendance.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Requirements for Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma required.

• Some college or vocational coursework is preferred.

• Two or more years of related work experience preferred.

• Experience working with government forms and lending terminology is essential.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

Advanced computer skills, excellent oral and written communication skills; effective customer service abilities.

Abilities:

Requires repetitive movement, sitting, writing letters and memos, face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams, use of electronic mail, telephone conversations, contact with others (face-to-face, by telephone, or otherwise). Requires repeating the same physical activities or mental activities over and over; requires being exact or highly accurate, requires meeting strict deadlines. Requires work with external providers, customers or the public, work with others in a group or team.

Work Environment:

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.
