About This Position

Description:

NAYA Family Center is looking for a detail-oriented GL Accountant to support our Finance team with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close. This role is a great fit for someone building technical accounting skills in a nonprofit accounting environment — with meaningful work that directly supports services for Urban Native youth and families.

NAYA offers an exceptional benefits package, including free medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees (with affordable options for family members), a 401(k) retirement plan with a 6% match, paid vacation, and 16 paid holidays.

This is a full-time position typically working 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Pay for the position starts at $63,000 annually.

Who You Are

  • Ideally, you're familiar with Native American history and understand the diversity, strengths, and lived experiences of urban Native communities.
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field — or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • You bring 1–3 years of experience in financial and accounting services performing similar duties.
  • You have solid working knowledge of GAAP, including revenue recognition and restricted/unrestricted fund accounting.
  • You have prior general ledger experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting.
  • You have experience — or a strong interest in — managing financial aspects of federal, state, county, and city contracts and grants, including OMB Uniform Grant Guidance.
  • You are highly accurate and organized, with exceptional attention to detail in data entry and financial review.
  • You are proficient in Sage Intacct (preferred) or another cloud-based accounting system, and expert-level in Microsoft Excel and Office.
  • You demonstrate self-awareness, listening deeply, centering others, and taking accountability for your actions.
  • You are consistently punctual, reliable, and dependable in support of your team and clients.
  • You communicate clearly and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and can adapt to different situations.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare routine journal entries including accruals, allocations, and reclassifications.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for assigned accounts: cash and bank, accounts receivable, prepaids, accrued expenses, and intercompany accounts.
  • Assist with fixed asset tracking and depreciation schedules.
  • Support indirect cost allocation entries.
  • Maintain complete, organized supporting documentation.
  • Track restricted vs. unrestricted funds and support preparation of grant financial reports.
  • Ensure transactions are accurately coded by fund, department, and program.
  • Assist in preparing month-end reporting schedules and support annual audit preparation.
  • Respond to documentation requests from auditors and internal stakeholders.
  • Actively support accounting process improvements.
