Reference Librarian, Full-time at Jamestown Community College (NY) – Jamestown, New York

The Reference Librarian demonstrates initiative, leadership, and the ability to work both independently and as an integral member of the library team, and shares a commitment to creating a welcoming, supportive environment for students, faculty, staff, and other library users. The Jamestown Community College Reference Librarian delivers library instruction, promotes information literacy, provides reference services, and manages collection development, among other professional duties.

• Provide a full range of reference services, using current methods and technologies to meet student, faculty, and staff needs.
• Develop, deliver, and assess an innovative program of library instruction and information literacy.
• Provide leadership in exploring emerging information technologies and promoting appropriate applications.
• Collaborate with and promote outreach to faculty to integrate library instruction and information literacy into the curricula and to develop collections in support of the curricula. This includes the development, maintenance, and coordination of library instructional content and electronic resources for online courses and programs.
• Collaborate with learning commons faculty and staff for ongoing development of library’s website content.
• Manage and coordinate collection development of print and electronic resources.
• Serve on college committees and participate in the academic life of the college and community.
• Represent and promote the library as a member of professional organizations and consortia.
• Maintain currency and competence in the field of librarianship.
• Fulfill other professional duties as assigned.
• Provide circulation desk coverage as needed.
• Regular attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution; familiarity with the principles of information literacy; recent experience and/or education in the provision of academic reference services; evidence of strong presentation/teaching skills; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work collegially in a diverse, fast-paced environment; a strong service commitment; a willingness and ability to serve students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds; proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred: Recent higher education professional experience in reference services and library instruction.
