Job Description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
Responsibilities
  • Create geotechnical data reports, geotechnical interpretation reports, geotechnical design reports for tunnel and shaft construction.
  • Create temporary support of excavation designs, reports, and drawings.
  • Produce tunnel lining design documentation, including lateral earth pressure calculations.
  • Perform ground settlement and construction impact analysis of subsurface structures (e.g., shafts, tunnels) and 3rd party infrastructure (e.g., buildings, utilities).
  • Create and oversee the implementation of settlement monitoring plans.
  • Plan and execute geotechnical investigations.
  • Assist in the collection and review of as-built drawings and existing geotechnical data for subsurface due diligence.
  • Provide geotechnical recommendations for construction means and methods.
  • Perform construction period observation and inspection.
  • Support brick operations with geotechnical recommendations and testing oversight.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology or related discipline.
  • Anywhere from 1-10 years of experience working in underground construction (tunneling, mining). Candidates with more experience will given a title and compensation which is reflective of their skillset.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Coursework in geotechnical engineering (soils and rock mechanics), structural analysis, foundation engineering, hydrology, earthquake engineering, engineering geology, tunnel engineering, reinforced concrete design, steel design, and constitutive modeling.
  • Preliminary and final analysis and design experience (geotechnical investigation, slope stability analysis, support of excavation, construction impact to adjacent buildings and utilities, providing geotechnical design parameter recommendations).

Additional Requirements
  • The position may require extended hours and weekend work.
  • This role is on site / in person in Las Vegas, NV. Relocation will be supported.
  • The position will require periodic work inside tunnels. Candidates should be comfortable with this.
