Job Description

VP of Strategic Finance

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP of Strategic Finance based in United States.

This is a high-impact finance leadership role at the intersection of FP&A, business operations, and company strategy.
You will own the full financial planning cycle while helping leadership understand the operational drivers behind financial performance.
The role goes beyond traditional reporting, requiring you to connect business activity across operations, go-to-market, product, people, and finance.
You will act as an internal strategic advisor, tackling complex and ambiguous problems from initial framing through implementation.
Your analysis will directly inform decisions around staffing, pricing, pipeline performance, resource allocation, investments, and new business models.
You will also help strengthen financial systems, processes, data infrastructure, and analytical capabilities as the organization scales.
Reporting to the SVP of Finance, you will have broad autonomy and the opportunity to influence decisions across the business.

Accountabilities
  • Own the full FP&A cycle, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and board-level financial narratives.
  • Translate financial performance into clear business insights, explaining not only what happened but the operational factors driving the results and their implications for future performance.
  • Act as an internal consulting resource for ambiguous, cross-functional business challenges, taking initiatives from problem definition and analysis through recommendations, decisions, and implementation.
  • Diagnose financial trends by connecting P&L movements to underlying operational drivers across service delivery, provider economics, sales performance, product decisions, organizational changes, and other business factors.
  • Use data and financial analysis to inform real-time decisions involving staffing, pipeline performance, pricing, resource allocation, and operational priorities.
  • Surface cross-functional insights and leading indicators that enable leadership teams to identify opportunities and risks before they become visible in traditional financial reporting.
  • Lead high-priority analytical initiatives, including unit economics, investment cases, new business models, strategic planning, and complex business deep dives.
  • Evaluate financial tools, data infrastructure, and operating processes with a systems-oriented perspective, prioritizing scalability, integration, and long-term effectiveness.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to senior finance leadership by challenging assumptions, identifying second-order effects, and bringing analytical rigor to major business decisions.
  • Collaborate across functions to align stakeholders, turn insights into action, and strengthen the organization's ability to make data-informed decisions.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience spanning FP&A, business operations, strategy, or related analytical functions.
  • Experience in investment banking, management consulting, business operations, strategy and operations, or a comparable analytical role within a scaling organization.
  • Proven ability to own the FP&A cycle end-to-end, including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and executive or board-level financial storytelling.
  • Demonstrated experience operating within businesses with meaningful operational complexity and connecting financial outcomes to underlying business activity.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities, with the ability to identify leading indicators, evaluate unit economics, and develop rigorous investment and business cases.
  • Proven ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives from problem framing through recommendation, decision-making, and implementation.
  • Strong systems thinking, with an interest in improving financial processes, data infrastructure, tools, and organizational workflows as the business scales.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex financial analysis into clear recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong business judgment, intellectual curiosity, and a bias toward operational action rather than analysis for its own sake.
  • Experience with SaaS, legal technology, marketplace businesses, or similarly operationally complex environments is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with analytical and data platforms such as Looker, dbt, or Snowflake is a plus.
  • Ability to work autonomously, challenge assumptions constructively, and build trusted relationships with senior leaders and cross-functional partners.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation of $230,000–$300,000, plus equity.
  • Stock options that provide an opportunity to participate in the organization's growth.
  • Premium medical, dental, and vision coverage with options for employees and families and generous employer contributions.
  • Wellness and mental health benefits available to employees and families.
  • Flexible paid time off and a remote work environment.
  • Opportunity to own a strategic domain with significant autonomy and visibility across the organization.
  • High-impact work directly influencing financial strategy, operational decisions, and company direction.
  • Collaborative, cross-functional environment with opportunities to work closely with senior leadership.
  • A culture focused on integrity, long-term partnerships, continuous innovation, and meaningful professional growth.
