Job Purpose: The Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring that manufactured products are welded to code. The Technician will ensure that welders are welding within the correct parameters, and that only certified welders are performing the work.
Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversees the hydro test, PT per Section V ASME BPVC test and daily weld progression.
- Performs quality control inspections of products ensuring that they are welded to spec, performs hydro-test on pressure vessels, observes weld tests to ensure procedures are being followed, and observes welding in process to ensure proper procedure is being followed.
- Operates overhead cranes and various lifting devices, operates grinder and other hand tools, operates a band saw to cut weld tests, operates hydraulic press to bend weld tests, and uses calipers, micrometer and various weld gauges.
- Identifies heat code numbers on materials and records them, reads blue prints with weld symbols and dimensions, maintains required records, and reads and understands Section IX ASME BPVC and ensures compliance.
- Identifies and demonstrates safety precautions as needed and points out problems, explains how to fix them, and follows up to ensure that it was fixed.
- Notates flaws on receiving reports and issues hold tags if items are to be rejected.
- Works with vendors for constant product improvements.
- Reviews Material Test Reports and verifies items meet required specifications.
- Schedules all NDE visits for ASME Code and interacts with ASME audit and pre-audit reviews.
- Assigns internal tracking numbers to materials and components when applicable, performs in-process quality audits, new program inspections and suppler evaluations.
- Reviews blueprints, answers questions that welders have about tolerance or weld sizes, ensures AI has inspected tanks and checks anything marked after inspection.
- Performs weld tests during interview process, updates welder qualification log, and issues welder certificates.
- Drives a forklift and uses a hoist when needed.
- Creates and prints the material receiving reports prior to inspection.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. Secures tools, materials and equipment at end of day.
- Performs additional duties as needed.

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred plus 4 years welding experience in relative industry/field.
- Quality Control and ISO experience is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as charts, procedure manuals and job instructions with basic problem solving skills.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to accurately read and record measurements using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools, as well as read a tape-measure.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to use hand tools, such as wrenches and screw-drivers
- Ability to use power tools, such as grinders and drill.
- Ability to operate computer and computer software, to include Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to use department equipment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Must be able to undergo and pass a Jaeger Type No. 1 eye exam with color deficiency.
- The work environment is usually an indoor setting with frequent exposure to outside elements. The noise level in the work environment is frequently high. This position requires infrequent travel, which may involve exposure to extreme weather elements.
- Must abide by PPE requirements.
